Penalty for serving sitewide text links?

Hello all - I've got sitewide text links being served on my site via an adserver.

Is there a danger of search engine penalty to my site, even though the ads are being served remotely? Should I be using the nofollow attribute in the links?

    Many thanks for your feedback!

Well it was said by "matt" that you should be using "no follow" though ultimately
the choice is yours to make wether you wish to or not...
If the link is NOT relevant then chances are that you wont be sending him
any link juice as im sure it will be seen that the person advertising has no interest
in traffic and rather more on the PR benefits which is what they are
targeting due to it causing irrelevant serp spam .

    just my thoughts nothing more...

    thx

I can say, yes, but after a time, your site will back to the serp, but you need to wait...

It isn't too much of a problem in my experience.
