Does anyone here have tried PC Tools Antivirus? I just installed it yesterday and I'm not sure if it works at all or I'm simply browsing virus-free pages. The story in short: I hate those monster-installations that comes bundle with your computer such as Norton Antivirus, Symantec and PC-Cilling because they eat up to much system resources and "protect" too much, this is they bother with alerts even if you are simply using your everyday applications or such. First thing I do when getting a new computer is getting rid of them and install a simpler antivirus, formerly AV-Free, best known today as Avira, but overtime this became annoying and changed to AVG which is now annoying too with its bundled spyware, malware and all that stuff. As far as I know I want an antivirus, not all the others that I can run apart and not memory-installed. After testing other antivirus I finally found PC Tools that seems to be what I was looking for but, as I said, it is sit quietly on my taskbar and I'v not sure if it works. Let me tell you that I tried doing a full-system scan and it found two viruses, probably false alarm like the above mentioned do, since such viruses are pages saved from archive.org <<< my own old site's home page, so I'm sure I had not viruses there.
visit www (dot) eicar (dot ) org they have a "test" virus full details on the site. It'll let you know if your AV is working or not. HTH
I do the same thing. I don't want antivirus softwares in my pc because they eat up too much memory and slows down my computer. Instead I make sure that I get a backup of all my important files.
