Well, I got a problem today in my PC.

When I start my PC, the fan starts running but I get no display in Monitor.:(
Monitor is working well as I checked it with another CPU.
Motherboard also looks good as the fan is moving. :p

So, what could be the problem? Why is it not working..

Last time there was similar problem and service center people told that hard drive wires were loose.

Even, I am not able to install new OS as nothing is coming on screen.

Remove all the RAM sticks once, clean them with a soft and dry cloth then re-insert them.

If it doesn't sort out your problem, your second guess could be right about hard disk wires. To check that, remove all cables (CD rom, Hard Disk etc) from the motherboard itself and try to start the computer. If it starts, than the problem is elsewhere and if it doesn't, just tighten your cables. :)

Threaten your pc, tell her she will be sent to the scrapyard in itsy bitsy little pieces! (hold a hammer and stare her down for dramatic effect)
If that doesn't work, insult her... pick on her little defects.. call her mouse a rat.. call her a Central Poo-Cessing Unit
As a last resort you may kick her in the groin (this usually works)

    @ Ausdrez

Well, i removed those from motherboard and now PC is starting and asking to connect hard disk. :D

What to do now. Looks like problem either in hard disk or wires of hard disk. And i am using XP.

I connected hard disk now and it says - Error reading disk. Press ctr alt del to restart.

Glad I am able to help someone here!

So, the problem lies in either hard drive itself of its cables. Now, remove all the cables from the both ends (motherboard and hard drive/CD rom) and replace them with each other (CD ROM's in Hard Disk and vice verca). Then connect them again. Hopefully, it will work out for you (It at least does for me).

Well, I connected them all and trying to start but it was saying some error reading disk. SO, I thought of formatting it.
And I was not able to install it on my C drive where my earlier OS was installed. And I had to format and delete everything of it.
And then I installed OS on D drive. Don't know why but C drive not working well. Even when I copy anything to it, it takes much time. So, for safety I deleted that logical drive C and not using it now.
By the way PC working well now since I installed OS on D drive. :D
    Thanx! :)

Good that you got it working again. However, I won't suggest to use that hard drive further, as it may probably have developed bad sectors within. Or atleast, never store any IMPORTANT data in it because if it will sink next time, that will be with your data too. So, only store the data which you can easily bear to lose anytime in that hard disk.

Yes, I am thinking now to buy a new hard disk. And I think Seagate would be good.

You should probably get some new RAM.

As I said earlier somewhere on this forum, Seagate USED to be a market kind few years ago. Now, it makes the crappiest hard drives. In fact, I sometimes receive more than a dozen failed seagate drives in a weak, with customers mourning for their death.

seems the problem has been resolved. current hard drive technology has evolved rapidly, both in terms of hard drive capacity, speed reading and writing, etc. but not balanced by the resistance of a disk.

What's the best HD now, in your opinion? Western Digital? Something else?

It's either a faulty motherboard PCI-E or AGP slot, a bad graphics card, or a bad monitor. Only way to really find out is to try a new monitor, then a new graphics card, and if those fail a new motherboard.

I think you forgot to read it completely.
It was just some hard disk error and it has been solved.
