yes, starts off all quick and lively, i start my morning checking email, then open photoshop, then dreamweaver, msn messenger, and explorer.

switching between the 4 for about 3/4 hours my pc grinds to a snails speed. I usually have to reset/restart my pc.

Is there any program that will refresh the system without restarting, its just a pain closing down all projects etc.

    thanking you in advance.

I think it would be important to know the specs of the machine you are using. What are they? The only thing that has ever helped me in those situations is a raw upgrade (more ram, better processor, etc).

Try using "Process Explorer" by Sysinternals (a subdivision of Microsoft).
    URL: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx

It shows running processes in a tree structure, and can help finding problem processes much easier than the default Windows task manager.

Try to look at the resources programs are using (CPU/RAM) when you first boot up, then when it grinds to a halt. The biggest difference will likely be your problem process ;) Try restarting that 1 application, and see if your PC is relieved without fully restarting everything.

That way, you only have to restart 1 program instead of everything. Much more efficient :)

However, you can also see what your bottleneck is too. Likely, it's either CPU speed or RAM (most commonly RAM if you have a fairly new CPU (dual or quad core). 4GB is a great amount for multi-taskers!

As American said, it is a problem of resources. As you use your computer, without closing the programs, they tend to use more and more resources. You should use a program that tells you the resources each program is using, principally memory, and see if memory usage (for example) diminishes by closing and re-opening the programs that use more resources.

If you are adept to work with many programs opened, you finally will find yourself buying more memory or a new machine.
