I don't know how many of you play(ed) any sort of Text Based RPG online, but I've recently found a fairly good one and I'd like to know what you guys and gals think of it. PirateOmen has been in development for a long time, and its the worlds first AJAX BBMMORPG. I was a beta tester for it, but it just released officially on September 22nd. Its almost as if you took a questing game (such as WoW) and put it into your internet. Theres 1000's of NPCs, Items and Quests for people to do and level up with. The game is also fairly secretive to some degree. By this I mean to unlock one quest in one Port you may need to do one in another Port. To make a crew you need to unlock a quest, and only one person has figured it out at this time. You could say it has as many secrets as Ocarina of Time . Its owned by a real company, Booty Gaming, Inc. Therefore its staff are hired in real life (no player staff), so there will always be, weekly updates. The developers are exceptionally good at what they do. Because they're paid, there is no "corruption" amongst the players to staff and vice versa, and they will always act professional. This is most certainly not your average game where someone buys a script, puts a nights work into it and calls it a game. You'll need to see it to know what I mean, I think. Anyway, check it out and tell me what you think about it. http://www.pirateomen.com/
Looks great!!! But it wasen't the first AJAX MMORPG out there...I made Wisemafia.com like 2 years ago But nonetheless nice game, I hope it flourishes!
Sometimes I am a bit of a sucker for browser games And it's nice to see a good new browser game that isn't about mafias or spaceships and stuff.
Oh, really? I wasn't aware another AJAX MMORPG existed, the site boasts of being the first. Most of the ones I've played have either been about the Mafia, Gangsters, Spaceships or military, Pirates is rather refreshing .
Just a warning to all players out there, the Admins of this game had another previous game called: Rule the Seas People have spent literally THOUSANDS on this game, and then they up and left them for over two months without an update or anything. The reason? Because Pirate Omen was releasing. They thought it was more important to hang out over there all the time then update the game that people have already spent thousands on. Just beware, when they get a new game, this is probably how these players on Pirate Omen will get treated. Letter that they posted the players after 2 months of silence: Hi Guys! I hope all of you are having an excellent week. I have addressed a few of these concerns in mass mails and forum posts, though, some feel that since we have not been publicly active we have disappeared implying the game will disappear. This is simply not true. I will do my best to hopefully answer some of these questions and concerns in this letter and will follow up to well written relevant responses and questions. Skeet and myself check on major game issues daily but do not dedicate much of our time here. Rule the Seas does support it's server costs and currently turns a profit, but it would not if we had staff monitoring the game. All PTI proceeds are currently caching in a PayPal account and are not removed. These proceeds will continue to fund the server costs of the game until they are depleted. The funds have been accruing for quite some time now and we have not and will not take profits on these funds. If and when Rule the Seas heads to Davvy Jones' locker, like all games eventually do, we will notify you far in advance and will not allow players to spend anymore money here. At this time RTS is not in any financial trouble and will continue to exist for a long time. If I had to guess I expect at least 1+ years, and depending on player support that number could very easily grow by double or triple. I have put myself in your shoes and understand the frustration of not having excellent customer support and staff to maintain and add content to the game. Unfortunately, human resources are the most expensive part of this business, and RTS does not support the addition of any more staff. We have tossed around the idea of having player volunteer staff but have seen the negative effects of empowering unsupervised volunteers and have decided against it. It was my personal goal to improve, expand and build a great company with Pie Throwers Interactive. We were on track to complete some of those goals but my business partner and I were not after the same things. (See my last open letter to the community) A little over a year ago I made the decision to start fresh and build a new solid foundation to grow with instead of attempting to rebuild on a broken system. There would be no way to completely overhaul RTS without resetting all of the players accounts. It's public knowledge that we are involved with another company that has made a similarly themed game. Booty Gaming has recently released Pirate Omen , the worlds first Ajax MMORPG. Booty Gaming is entirely different company than PTI, the company is venture capital backed, has it's own offices and a full time staff of 21 people. I'm sure that this is very frustrating to some of you knowing that we have taken what we've learned with our tenure here and applied it to another business and product. For that all I can do is apologize and make sure we do not repeat our mistakes. We would love to give RTS back to the community and would like to open up the option for someone to buy the game. We will entertain any reasonable offer from someone who would like to take the time to revitalize the game, it's code and restore faith in it's customer base. We don't think it would be an easy task, though, for someone who is dedicated they could make a great living and work with a wonderful group of players to renew the game. Thank you for supporting RTS and taking the time to voice your opinions. I'll do my best to answer your questions.
