What I like about alertpay is they have their own debit card, you can withdraw the money anywhere on ATMs even outside US.. :)

PayPal vs AlertPay? Oh give me a break, what makes it different from others? People use PayPal because it works. In 99% cases there's a good reason why they blocked this or limited that. Too often I see people stealing, scamming and then with innocent faces calling out paypal for taking actions against them. I sell as well as I integrate paypal on my sites as well as those of my clients, I never had any problems and I don't see why I ever would. Their system is one of the best out there, and most importantly it works. The thing I can't say about AlertPay...

I've recently had to implement AlertPay processing on a site, it was the first time I encountered it, and by all means I will avoid doing that in the future and will discourage others from it. Not only all merchant part of the system was unavailable for a few days when I had to do the job (clients take no excuses), but their IPN system is way too unreliable for a payment processor. For god's sake, you cannot append garbage to data or not send any data at all out of the blue (and yes, I monitored precisely and for a considerably long period of time to locate the issue and to make sure it is not on my end). When it comes to money handling, a reliability of less than 100% is unacceptable. There are many better payment processors than AlertPay for all I know, so this "PayPal vs AlertPay" statement seems ridiculous to me, same as to say "Microsoft vs Joe's Hardware Store", plain ridiculous.

It wouldn't be that bad if it actually worked.

[edit]To add as a disclaimer, I never used it as a buyer, only as a seller. I would expect it works well for spending/receiving, but god help if you want to automate it.[/edit]

Just used Alertpay for the first and probably the last time. To say their fees are extortionate are an understatement. Check out the transaction and fees below.

    Transaction Details
    -----------------------------------

    Date: July, 06 2008 4:33:11 PM
    Reference Number: #####-#####-#####
    Withdrawal Method: By Bank Transfer
    Balance Name: Pound Sterling
    Amount Requested: £6.35 GBP
    Fees: £2.25 GBP
    Amount Sent: £4.10 GBP
    Transaction Details: Alertpay

I have emailed them twice two days apart asking for a reason but they haven't replied yet. One thing is for sure though and that is that I will be only using Paypal in future as there is no point in a payment processor that takes over a third of the transaction in fees. Their site says that the fee is $0.50 but this is nearer $4.50. In addition to this they charged me $0.58 for receiving the grand sum of $13.50 into my account. This adds up to charges of $5.00 for a transaction of $13.50.
If they do reply I will post it here but as it stands I will not touch them again.

Initially there was $13.50 transferred into my account for which Alertpay took $0.58. This was then converted into £'s and became £6.35. Using Alertpay to transfer into my personal bank account, listed as costing $0.50 on their site, cost a further £2.25 (about $4.50) leaving just £4.10 to be transferred into my bank. This means that I was charged about $5.00 for using Alertpay out of an initial transfer of $13.50.

After two emails and five days they have still not replied so I have to consider this transaction to be typical of the excessive fees that they charge despite what they put on their website. I would strongly suggest that they be avoided. Paypal is far from perfect but when it takes a payment for you and transfers it to your bank, they don't take a 37% cut of it !

PayPal for features, AlertPay for support.

I prefer PayPal when possible, since I have not had any MAJOR problems.

Big chance that alertpay will surpass paypal. Alertpay is working harder than paypal to have more countries allow to use their services.

I wouldn't pick one over the other. Some people only use paypal and others only use alertpay so I won't miss a payment from clients by using both.
