I am always reluctant to take payments via paypal since it can be chargebacked. Is it the big problem since any cheater could pay me and then chargeback or am I overreacting a bit Whats your attitude?
Well guys I know all that. What I wanted to ask - is it easy for a cheater to chargeback. Like anybody open a paypal account, buying things and then chargebacking just like that.
yeah thats the case. When somebody contact me through forums I can see who is the person. But if somebody contact me through skype/email I don't know who is the person. Maybe there are people here who receives loads of paypal payments and could clear the situation about how often the chargeback occure?
I've had one chargeback in about 18 months. It was clearly from someone who was pulling a con, - not worth going into details, but they had the goods, and decided not to pay, came up with some rubbish about someone else using their card. But it wasn't even up to paypal to make the decision, the credit card company took their word, and the fact that I could blow holes in their story didn't make any difference. However - I learnt from the experience. To protect yourself look very closely at paypals terms, and be sure you have followed them to the letter, and if you're doing international business, check what regions paypal is offering seller protection for.
The thing about chargeback is that as long as you accept credit card payments online, does not matter if it is through Paypal or some other means, chargeback is always going to be a problem. The good thing is that Paypal allows you the ability to refund the payment. What you do is to not opt to automated delivery. Just a few steps you take would save you a lot of headaches. 1. Never accept payments from an unverified Paypal account. There is no reason why anyone who is seriously considering using paypal not to have their account verified. Besides paypal made the process simple, ie by adding a credit card or a bank account. Unverified accounts are probably by fraudsters, underage members or people who basically are not supposed to have a paypal account. 2. Never do automated delivery. Vet every single transaction which comes in. Check to see if the country matches the address, emails and IP address. If you are unsure, contact the buyer to check. If your gut feeling say something is wrong and no matter how attractive the money is, go ahead and refund the money. I get chargebacks no matter which providers I use but now I manually approve or deny each others and the chargeback levels dropped to 0. Encountering fraud is just part and parcel of doing business and you have to be prepared for it.
I consider their feedback whenever I recieve payments from them. But for really big amounts, I prefer western union.
I never had problems with paypal but i've to recognize that many people do have them. I would suggest one thing... Why don't you have two paypal accounts? One personal and use it only for payments using paypal funds And a premier or business account just to receive paypal credit card payments AND add an extra fee to this type of payment. Maybe this way people will tend not to use credit card payment option that much. Just an idea, i don't have any online business...Not sure if this would be doable.. :/
Like Jarodboy says, you are allowed to have 2 accounts - a business account and a personal account. You can do less with a personal account it terms of taking payment, but can pay people with it. You have to have different credit cards associated with them.
