Paypal Security Measures

Discussion in 'PayPal' started by Oosha, Jul 28, 2007.

    Hi,

When logging into my Paypal account, this is the message that came up:

"We are currently performing regular maintenance of our security measures. Your account has been randomly selected for this maintenance, and you will now be taken through a series of identity verification pages.

Protecting the security of your PayPal account is our primary concern, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Please fill in the correct information for the following category to verify your identity."

The info they ask me to fill up is my credit card number all over again.

Does that make sense? I have no clue if this is just their regular security measure. Can someone enlighten me on this please?

    Thanks

I don't know, that sounds fishy that they ask for your credit card number. Contact them by phone and ask them about this. Better than risking that your browser has been compromised and you're being redirected to a fishy website. There must be something else they could ask for, like the last 4 digits of your credit card or SSN, not the full number.

    Call them first!

The point is that it MAY NOT be Paypal, in which case the OP would be disclosing his CC number to someone else. It might be that somehow he is getting redirected to another website.

If you are using IE 7, make sure the address bar is green.

I wanted to take your advice and call them first, and to retrieve their tel number, when I click on the 'contact us' button, it redirects me to the above message.

Weird!! This gets me all the more suspicious.

Can someone give me the Paypal Tel Number please.

    Thanks

It looks legit. Are you accessing from a different country or IP ? They do this at times as part of their routine checks or when they found something suspicious.

    Taken from their website

Thanks for the customer service info. I tried calling them, but being Saturday, I guess they are closed. Will have to wait and call them during their working hours.

I have a question. I happen to use two computers with two different IPs, depending on whether I am at work or home. Is that wrong?

Thanks once again for the help!

They would not expect you to just use one PC to access your account, they are just trying to protect your account when they find that something may be suspicious. As long as you are the account holder, this matter can be easily resolved. Once you enter your credit card number, you should gain full control of your account.
