One of the banks back here in the Philippines has already that feature. Could be a good feature if you don't like to change your password forever.

Q - How does the PayPal Security Key work?

A- The PayPal Security Key creates an account access code by using a complex algorithm that's unique to your key. When you enter that code after you log in with your user ID and password, our secure servers can verify your identity more securely. This helps prevent unintended or unauthorized users from logging in to your PayPal account.

Note: The token battery should last up to three years.

Hope above info helps you to understand :)

Basically it allows protection when you login. Normally you just put in your username and password and it logs in, however with the security key you have to use your username and password, then enter your unique code from the security key (which is uniquely generated every 30secs).

the random 6 digit code generated is related to the device assigned to you. When you activate the security key you need to enter a unique barcode to your device in order to activate.

Several banks in US and Europe use such a system. Its a device where you login, and it gives you the code you need to enter for login to your paypal account.. I have 3 such devices for 3 of my Norwegian bank accounts.
Basically it makes it next to impossible for anyone to get into your account, as this key code ( of several digits)
    keep changing...

A very good tool i must say...
I will get it for my paypal account also...
