So a scammer on these boards, lolerskateslol, tried to run off with $110 of mine for 2 DVDs. After not responding to my pm's, I opened a paypal dispute 2 weeks ago and lost today because he "claimed" it was a virtual item, not DVDs. Well, I was no where close to bending over to paypals decision and called them. I talked to some lower level patsy that was basically reading from a script and after chewing him out for a while, I asked to talk to the resolution center supervisor. I articulated my situation to him and after a brief hold, he told me that the result had been not properly determined and that they ruled in my favor. Moral of the story: Don't let douche scammers intimidate you with their "e-thug" pm's and explain your situation in a forceful manner to the highest level Paypal employee and YOU will win.
Congrats! A similar thing also happened to me, only in the opposite way. A buyer bought my product, and even though he was using it everyday (it's software, so I can check) he opened a dispute and wrote then he hasn't received anything, even though I've send the reg. info both to his e-mail and in PayPal. To cut a long story short, PayPal favored my side, so not all is bad with PayPal.
Gr8 Story!!! nice to see that you won HAHAHA SCAMMERS! but then i got scammed and paypal called me a scammer... someone told me to signup to something for $$$ so i did then when they sent me the cash they took it back :S and paypal accepted
I've had to open a number of disputes in PayPal myself before, and I've found that they've all gone in my favor. So, all those people who aren't sure of them, if you're honest, it'll go your way.
Good always wins in the end! That's great about your stories! Just don't take no for an answer and ALWAYS talk to the resolution center head. I can't stress that enough. Hope this thread helps some people in the future!
In some cases, which is the case for sites of mine that deal with intangible goods/subscriptions, that Paypal are 50/50 whether they rule in favor of the reversal scammer (which by the time has started the resolution, has made away with the valuable content) However if they go to their credit card company then you got no chance, Paypal were absolutely useless and if you try to fight it, they take extra money from you to "pay for the claim" It's funny, cause they state no reversal policy for intangible goods. Their phone support is useless and when transferred to English center, the guy spoke as if he was receiving head under the desk while speaking to me. He didn't care.
Hmm that's odd. I just yelled at the customer service guy and was on the phone with the resolution department head in 5-10 minutes.
Paypal is horrible for this. I had a dispute with a hosting provider that is still going on and has been since the 12th of this month, and today was the day it was supposed to be settled I received a email from them saying they need to look further into this. What had happened was I ordered a vps from a provider that is no longer in business, 3 days after ordering from them I was not setup. So I went to their website only to find out that they were shutting down their website and business. So I started a dispute, and still no response. In addition to that, I decided to eliminate the middle man and go straight to the source and went out and bought a dedicated server, a customer ordered a plan from me then 2 weeks later decided he wanted his money back. So he went on to start a dispute against me, so about 3-4 days later I receive a email from paypal telling me I lost and the funds were returned. I have a case almost a month old and still no word, but this dishonest person gets refunded right away? I don't get it.. Paypal could be good, but a lot of times they're not fair.
Yes, Paypal are very poor when it comes to protecting online intangible businesses.. It's difficult when the item isn't physically sent, I know, but this is a symptom of not looking deeply into the case itself. Infact alot of the cases I tried to resolve there was no option for me to type in. I had to provide parcel tracking ID, which was impossible. I think they should investigate more, like take screenshots from the defendant and determine on previous reputation.
