I just got an email from someone pretending to be Paypal. There was a link with anchor text that read paypal.com/... but the actual link goes to this ip address 70.29.183.131. Is there a way to report this scammer? And, what is the best way to do this?

My goodness - I get 20-30 of these a day and have for 3-4 years now. I won't spend the extra time trying to "report" them to PayPal - just ignore it and drive on with the mission!

I used to report eBays to them, but they kept sending my back two emails to let me know it was a scam. Well, NO DUH, that's why I was sending it to you. I quit sending them the emails.

Yeah, I don't think Paypal cares, it's just a PR front, don't waste your time in my opinion as you're not gaining anything.

I think the funniest scams are the fake PayPal emails sent to people that don't even have a PayPal account :)

these things are so annoying - amazon, ebay, paypal - get them all the time.

Like the misspelling on most of the mails - and the shoddy page layout - gives a real feel of authenticity

    People calm down..
That is all very standard and we all gt those emails.

But what would be your reaction if you get an email with a correct paypal link, and it redirects you the correct paypal site, and shows correct SSL cretificate information.. but is still a scam? Ever saw that?

    Well, read about it:
    http://www.abuzant.com/od/2006-06/paypal-security-flaw-allows-identity-theft.html

    How to protect yourself?
Just type-in www.paypal.com and see what they want, do not follow email links.

Yes I always follow golden rule "Type in www.paypal.com and then read it, if they want something it will there" do not follow a link of emails

Also, if you type "paypal.com" into your browser still check for the padlock symbol to verify that you are on a secure site.

Scammers have gone beyond phishing via email and now use malicious code you may have unwittingly downloaded to redirect you, even when you manually enter the correct url. This technique, known as pharming, will take you to a spoof paypal site that will show the correct url in your browser. However, any details you enter on that web page will go straight into the scammers hands.

PayPal often shuts those sites down within hours of people getting those e-mails. I went to one, realized it was a scam and then less than an hour later it was gone.

They probably get those e-mails too.
