Paypal Scam Gets Better Beware of even better looking Paypal scams... New improved full color templates with personal info! http://www.searchen.com/forum/t762-alert-paypal-scam-gets-better.html
Just to make a note that the following emails have the real names because the user probably subscribed to some mailing list and the information got sold. However a different case scenario would be if a database with your information on some server/site got hacked and obtained for spam/phishing use.
Hi, I was looking at that email and noticed that the "Spoof" website address was http://email1.paypal.com ... Now when I got to that page nothing loads. But it is at the paypal.com domain so would that not suggest that it is a legit email? Unless when you click the link in the email it takes you to another site and the www link was faked? Drew.
Your looking at the text of a mouseover of the link. All the links are legit on the spoofs usually being the Learn more, and disclaimers and such. However the URL is some crap usually or IP as you can't spoof your Address Bar URL anymore unless your on an Older version of Internet Explorer, this bug however was corrected last year I remember.
Last week I got an eBay like that my name was correct but my login id was missing. The URL was some http://x.x.x.x/ebay/whatever/ The test was something like a fraudulent login was made from IP x.x.x.x please login to verify your account.
I've had dozens of those things. It's the usual bollox. I pity the poor blighters whos hosting accounts are hijacked to relay this crap (as in the target URL's to which submission is really made).. You know what's worse ? Paypal doesn't give a damn. I remember having to deal with this a while back (courtesy of a know-it-all client who wound up hacked), I sent ppal the list of all IP's who'd connected, the submitted data, a full description, and a copy of the scripts being used.. Their response ? A canned response that didn't even relate to the subject matter.. Fair enough, they have to deal with a fair bit of it, but they certainly didn't instill any confidence.. I handed them the data they needed on a silver platter, all clients effected.. they did nothing (I know because I inserted my own PP info in there to see how they'd handle it).. Oh well, life goes on.. Cheers, JL
paypal and ebay are the most targeted scams , any other sites that are also vulnerable ? usually , emails are junk and one should be careful when clickin links from email.
I get them from many banks, paypal and also ebay. Personally, I don't use a html email client. Very few genuine people ever send me html emails - the odd few that do rarely do it twice if they want a timely answer. All html emails get filtered into a specific email folder and I'll look at them (deleting/answering as necessary) as and when I get around to it.
Yeah I recieve 4-5 a day, selling on eBay makes me more of a target, but I knew about this stuff thanx to some stuff in the past The mouse over the link trick works like a charm all the time
LOL I got one of those too and promptly sent a copy to PayPal and deleted it. I get at least one of them a day and for ebay also. Kevin
whenever i get those emails, which say to login to not be suspended, i type in the real site and then login, i dont use the links they give. I keep getting ebay ones saying my account will be suspended.... i never signed up for ebay yet.
LOL my accounts with both eBay and PayPal have been suspended at least 40 times in last 3 months according to these guys. The amazing part is I can still get my money. Hmmmmm makes me think that I should click on those links, NOT.
