I've tried this and got an error, that it cannot be used. I contacted Paypal Customer care and they said, I need a CC not a debit card.

Indya, have you tried w/ the new HDFC Netsafe program? (It creates a virtual credit card number w/ CVC).

    https://netsafe.hdfcbank.com/ACSWeb/enrolljsp/CardholderFAQ.jsp

Let us know how it goes. Thanks.

Just for all the US people wondering what this is about: most countries outside the US do NOT use credit cards for normal shopping purposes. Due to high interest rates and stuff like that credit cards are usually NOT the best option for payment outside the US (I include European countries like The Netherlands in this).

I got myself a credit card for the express purpose of being able to get money off paypal and pay my yahoo-hosting. Other than that, no use for it. (ah well, have used it with amazon once or twice since then).

Netsafe card works. I even verified my paypal a/c with a netsafe card but you have to create a netsafe card atleast INR 280 or above.[more than 3.5 euro].

Same problem with ICICI Debit card.

The new ICICI Debit cards are VISA cards with CVN, but still they don't work for online payments.

You can always get a Credit card against a fixed deposit. If you make a FD with a bank, they will give you a CC without any proof of income.

ICICI offers a lifetime free CC. CCs against FDs also have a lower interest rate - usually 1% or so.

The newer ICICI debit cards have CVV, but still they won't work. I don't know why , but maybe they are not enabled for internet transactions.

You have no choice - you have to GET A CREDIT CARD.

Personally I don't think so that VCC is a good idea to verify your paypal account. Better you go for credit card option.
