Basically, My mom went on a road trip for a week and someone had back doored her PC and had a keylogger on it. She returned home to fine seven hundred dollars transfered to someone else's paypal account. So I got her to open a unauthorized transaction complaint and explain what had happened. Today she gets a reply saying they will NOT refund her money because it looked like normal spending on her end. Pretty sad really, Since the most expensive thing she has bought as $58 from a perfume website. Is there really anything else she can do? I was thinking of maybe getting her to call them and ask them about it cause thats stupid how someone can steal seven hundred from her and get away with it like that. Before anyone says quit being retarded and leaving money in your paypal account she only had around twenty dollars on it. But she had a prepaid credit card that she puts money on monthly to buy stuff off the net or tv programs etc etc.
I think she had the money actually in her PayPal account so it didn't draw money from her credit card/bank account at the time What you can try is to call your bank or credit card company and reverse the payments made to upload the funds to PayPal.
The prepaid credit card is from mastercard, And it was linked to her paypal account so if you ever made a transaction and never had the funds in the paypal account it pulled them from the credit card. She's called them and they've told her the only way to get the money back is through paypal. Seeing has I wouldn't expect a seventy year old women to know how to secure a PC to the fullest, Hell I doubt 95% of people out there do. Bet a good chunk of people just run out and buy a anti virus and think there pc's are safe from anything.
You aren't supposed to ask for them to reverse the payment. You need to demand it. Nobody wants to reverse payments - it leads to both sides losing money but if you demand it then they will
It's cute seeing has all of her dumbie friends told her to get nortons cause it was "the best" heh. Anyways, Paypal are still being annoying saying to call the local police about the issue.
If it was paid for by a Credit card, then just call the card issuing company or bank and explain them the situation and tell them that you want to make a chargeback on that transaction, then the money will be refunded to your card regardless of whether it was sent through a 100 paypal accounts or transferred to bank by the hacker
Well this has become a big noosence. We called master card and being it a prepaid CC she doesn't have any theft protection but they said paypal would have her back. We called paypal, They said to call the local police. Called the local police and they pretty well said all that can be done is paypal refunds the money and removes it from whom evers account it is in now. Paypal are just being annoying.
I'm not sure what the legal fees is in your area but for 700$ I would surely take legal action(if it's less than the amount involved) if calling mastercard doesn't work. You should call paypal and tell them that you are taking legal action, I've heard that most of the times they will just refund you without court's involvement, but if they don't, the counrt will tell them to
Get a stamped written note from local police mentioning about what happenned and fax that copy to paypal.
Norton is the WORST antivirus ever. Takes a hell of time to make a complete scan and slows down your computer quite a bit. Get BitDefender Total Protection and set the firewall to it's maxium sensibility when doing online transactions. Also, try calling paypal by phone and explain the situation. Get them to check IPs or something like that (highly unlikely they'll do but it's still worth a shot)
im sure some one in your family made that payment, paypal check ips very good,if the ip be different they Limit your account very fast..! you should see WHo in your family did that,(the same guy keylogged comp) and u should know even keylogged dont have the same IP till he/she have access to the main computer..
