PayPal Reversal: Can I Open a Dispute?

Discussion in 'PayPal' started by Yaldaram, Dec 31, 2013.

One of my bad customer reversed 150$ USD, his date of payment was around 10 November so there are 45 days passed. I think there is a limit of 45 days before opening a dispute. I'm asking you guys if you've a better solution or advice about opening a paypal dispute of this transaction/reversal?

    Thank You!

I'm afraid you're out of luck - When it comes to disputes - PayPal is not Merchant friendly.

If the customer opened up a dispute and won?
Then you, are as they say, SOL.

The time to have taken care of the dispute was when the customer opened it.

Actually he didn't opened any dispute. What I think is that he perhaps paid it through his bank, after making the payment and getting the item he paid for he requested his bank to reverse the payment.

Paypal hasn't sent me any email or notification about his chargeback or reversal etc. upto yesterday, after I loggedin to paypal I saw his reversal notification.

So I'm asking is there anyway I could contact to paypal about this transaction? because paypal didn't notified me about this chargeback before so I could contact to buyer or to paypal in these regards.

Hoping to get any satisfactory answer from here.

I tried this by calling them but they refused. Worst part is buyers from CC's since if the credit card company charges back then nothing can be done by PayPal.

If that's the case, PayPal will not give you the win. You'll lose the money. However, if a dispute was made and you have valid proof of selling to the user and it's virtual, you can argue it's intangible and that buyer protection doesn't cover that.

Yeah, I've given them enough proofs and they refused to accept their own fault and limited my PP account. IMO they should notify a seller before reverse their funds. I told them that its their fault, and know what? They limited my account.

Have you tried calling them? Usually calling PayPal is a lot more efficient than dealing with email support.

if the person pays paypal with a credit card supposedly they can charge back for up to 180 days. If you contact paypal and discuss the reason that it should not be taken out and charges back they will at times side in your favor they are actually alright as i have got one payment reversal from them in my favor, so I was surprised after hearing how bad they are. But I have also had them side on ebay stuff that was plain old fraud.

It wasn't CC reversal, it was bank reversal and its more pain as compared to CC.

No, you can't open a dispute about a reversed transaction with an already closed dispute. Do you have proof of delivery? Was this a tangible product, service or digital product?

Yes I've proofs and I've already mentioned them to paypal. What I think amusing is paypal didn't denied those proofs however they're not going to accept their fault either. (By `fault` I mean that they should have to INFORM seller before going to reverse the payment)

Yes, it was a digital product like I mentioned in the first post already.

maybe they did notify and you just did not get the email...
I do not think it would have made a difference if they notified you first...
as long as the buyer's bank sides with him, you lose...
If you are dealing with anything virtual, then it is automatic lose....
and for the most part, who do you think the bank is going to
defend? Their customer, or you of which they do not know.....

and I have been there too...one time I put my hotel stay on my debit
card, and the hotel charged me 1.5 times of what was on my hotel
bill, and when i showed it to the bank, it did not matter to them...
the bank refused to refund the difference, after that, they were no longer my bank...
So it can go either way I guess, but my guess is that 99% of the time
then the bank will probably will go along with their customers.

and that also reminds me of a k-mart visit...
I was charged twice for my purchase. kmart did not
care, and my bank implied that I was doing something
wrong, and once again, the bank refused to remove that
double charge, and Once again, I dumped another bank....

I've logged record of all emails from paypal so there is no chance that I've missed any single email or didn't read that.

No, you haven't specified this and it makes a lot of difference. As dscurlock mentioned since it was a digital product you are out of luck, their CC has sided with them and by the time PayPal reversed the transfer your client had the money in his bank account. PayPal won't even give you the chance to appeal it because they have no chance to appeal the reversal either and the sad truth is that they don't have much interest in it.

True, they didn't even allowed me to appeal for this.

    Sad to hear that Yaldaram.
Even I would look forward to get rid of charge back issue. As it is not only yours, it is most of the vendors issue. I mean to say, when a customer needed some files OR software downloaded, he will charge back after getting everything what he wanted. Then the same person who charged back will easily find another vendor to do the samething. i.e., charge back after getting the files downloaded.
There might be a better way than to worry quitting Paypal.
I highly appreciate, if someone could help resolve this.

Thanks Yaldaram for bringing up this post.
