PayPal refusing customer payments!

I have some problems using Paypal that I would like to share with DP members ... so hopefully you can avoid for the future.

I have been using paypal website payments standard for over a year and now find that customers are telling me their payments are not being accepted.

I investigated and found this happens sometimes when using credit cards to make payment.

I spoke with PayPal technical team (each time i get a slighlty different answer) however this appears to be the issue:

Using payments standard there is a limit on the number of times a client can use their credit card, either 10 times, or a maximum of £650 (or dollar equivalent).

Also one tech guy told me that you will get random payments fail when people use a credit card - irrespective of whether they have reach the 10x or £650 limit.

The solution I am told is to upgrade to Website Payments Pro for £20 per month fee. The problem for me is that also means adding a shopping cart, which in turn means i have to get a developer to reprogramme payment verifications. For me a shopping cart is not helpful as I only have 6 products, but its what Paypal want for using Website Payments Pro.

In hindsight it seems I should have gone with Website Payments Pro from day 1. If only Paypal would have made clear the limitations of Website Payments standard.

Has anyone encountered this problem with Paypal?

Paypal is not a real merchant payment service. There are huge holes in it and a few ways for scammers to easily get free products and serrvices.

The problem with dropped orders in nothing new either. If you get a real merchant account from authorize.net you'll see your sales increase. Less chargebacks too.
