Today, I got accepted by Chitika. I just sent them this email - "Dear Chitika (I formerly said Paypal, my mistake - I copied and pasted beginning with "Apparently"), Apparently, the only way I can get paid is by Paypal. Is it possible to receive a check instead, living in the US? I have researched Paypal, and I find it severely disconcerting. A search on Google, "USING QUOTES", for "Paypal sucks", yields an amazing 63,000 results! This is 40,000 more NEGATIVE VOTES than Comcast, the second place most hated company. Why would you force such a pile of garbage upon ALL your US partners? Webmasters have posted every kind of problem imaginable. There is NO WAY I am going to deal with such a known disaster. Thank you for your kind invitation, but I have enough problems to deal with, without getting into bed with "Praypal". If you cannot send me a check as an alternative, we are done. Thank you very much for your time." Has anyone in the US been told that they can receive a CHECK, in lieu of Paypal? I don't like the idea of having a highly problematic third-party company shoved down my throat. .
Yes, yes of course. Thank you, SVG. What is that sig, anyway? Do you just want folks to ask? Because nobody on the planet would have a clue. Plus, it is not even a link, just made to look like one! What should we do? Just go hmmm? .
Have you ever used paypal? Your criteria for not wanting to use it is odd. Do you personally know anyone you hold in high regard who has had direct issues with paypal? Do you even know what the issues are that most people have with paypal? How do you think those common issues would exist in a relationship between you and chitika? Sorry, but you reluctance seems to be based on a lot of ignorance.
Excellent Points There! I have been using PayPal as both a buyer and a seller for well over two years now. I have never had a single negative issue with them. Cricket
Surely it is better than check. I am not able to use it but I use StormPay and it is OK... Chitika sends check when you exceed $50, so I don't see any problems with that... If they supported Stormpay it would be good, but this solutionwith check isn't bad either...
Don't trust paypal. I had my account frozen with more than $2000 in it when someone from ebay made a complaint. I sent him a PSP, yet he stated he never got it. I was not the first person he did this to. It took me 8 months to get my money out of paypal. I closed my account and will never use them again.
I had trouble with PayPal in the past when I used to buy/sell on eBay but haven't had any trouble since I stopped using eBay.
You most likely handled it wrong. Every issue I have ever had with paypal was resolved in 2-3 weeks to MY satisfaction. I have had my paypal account since 99. Before paypal is was hell to do any online business in bulk. Paypal does not suck.
I had my account since 99 as well. I couldn't have handled it any other way. First I had to fax them proof that I sent the item... what proof did I have? I had to fax them a copy of the post office slip and tracking number. Then for no reason at all they decided my account was not my own. They thought it had been hacked into by someone other than myself, which of course was not the case. So then they wanted me to fax them a copy of a phone bill, which I did not have (wasn't in my name, in fact none of the bills are). In the end the account was "under investigation" for 6 months... SIX MONTHS! When they finally "investigated" it, they found the other guy had made more than 50+ complaints under different names. Never again will I trust paypal. And if you listen to these people, paypal does infact suck: www.paypalsucks.com
So your account was under investigation because you couldn't even prove who you were, and you were in the middle of a fraud complaint investigation. Sounds reasonable to me. Most people can prove who they are relatively quickly. Sounds like you were a victim of your own circumstances. But your situation is very common of the people who say "never use paypal". Most of the stories I have seen have always had some kind of quirky element to it. How did you ship it out of curiosity? You said the post office, but what method of shipping? The reality is lots of people use paypal without having a problem or being locked out for six months. Fair enough if you don't want to use them ever again.. but as I stated in an earlier reply, that kind of situation holds no sway in a relationship between chitika and a publisher. If you think chitika is going to try and screw you, then why would you trust them to send a check? In this circumstance there is no reason not to use paypal with chitika.
