So... this guy from PayPal Fraud services calls me up to make sure purchases made on my PayPal debit card are mine... To my demise, two of them were not, one for $10, another for $990.... So the guy tells me not to worry, that he marked them as fraudulent, canceled my card, etc... I ask him, "so they aren't going through right", as it was detected as soon as they were placed i figured he'd tell me to calm down and not worry. Instead he says "call this number talk to them to be 100% sure". So i do... The lady who picks up has no idea about any fraudulent marked transactions, and tells me my debit card wasn't canceled... after putting me on hold for 10 minutes she assures me all is fine, and that if there is any reason the payments do go through, she emailed me the paperwork to fill out.... For the rest of the night I was really nervous, thinking the guy from "paypals fraudulent dep" was actually ripping me off, as my debit card still didnt show as canceled. So i reported it as lost /stolen myself, and had a little more peace of mind... But due to me not trusting the first phone call, i called again. After a second time of being on hold for an hour... some guy picks up. He also had no idea what was going on, but after talking to his supervisor he assured me the guy who called me first did everything he had to do, even though its not documented in their computers.... So since even someone with supervisor guidance couldn't help me, i had to trust them... Today... i see the $10 charge went through, and the $1000 is still on authorization... but now I can't sleep, if the $10 one went through, what says the $1000 one won't? What's the deal with PayPal, they found out i did not buy anything 5 minutes after it was made but couldn't stop the authorization for the $10. Now that the companies may have shipped whatever the scammers bought, they want me to file a chargeback? Ugh God, i hope the $1000 one DOESN't go through
You can also do a chargeback through your bank/credit card company if paypal doesn't help... Which is usually the outcome
That's right. If Paypal prove to be useless, then the next step would be contacting your credit card company and informing them of the situation.
The problem is as mentioned in my original post that the debit card under fraud, is the debit card PayPal gives out to its customers... so its their own card. Anyway the big transaction is still on hold. I assume I will know the outcome later today. Way to kill my productivity, Paypal.
Did you try contacting them again ? Don't say anything about the previous events, just say them you found some unauthorized charges in your card. Once they tell you what they are going to do explain to them the previous events.
i always had a suspician that paypal did do dirty work behind... and make profit... so file a chargeback as soon as possible and bring back your money. make them pay this time...
if the charge happens to go through, go directly to your bank/credit card company. we had some fraud charges of our own(not paypal), we went directly to our bank and got it taken care of.
Chargeback via Bank/Card company is best solution if it does go through. The $10 most likely went through because of the low amount. I somehow doubt the big $1k will go through as that itself is already a large and risky transfer that they will most likely end up monitoring very carefully.
