just wanted to let my DP fellows know an other scam i've got today thorugh e-mail! here it is what its says:- Just wanted to alert
Yup, that is interesting. For those who aren't aware this is called a phishing e-mail. By submitting that personal information to them, you basically allow them access to your account and end up with nothing. Skinny
Dont think this is a scam. The email is a genuine one from Paypal...check the login link...its directed towards the genuine Paypal site. I recd. the same mail 2 days ago.
I got one that was similar a few weeks ago. Just sent into to paypal to warn them and carried on with my life. Lately I’ve been blasted with spam from scammers. I doubt that paypal would tell you to log on to your account using that address.... If they required you to log on they would tell you to go to their site and log on
Rage, dude let me know the link that was morphed with the link provided! Can also contact their host! Abhishek
Read the entire email properly it says : We encourage you to log in and perform the steps necessary to restore your account access as soon as possible. Allowing your account access to remain limited for an extended period of time may result in further limitations on the use of your account and possible account closure. Logging thru the Paypal homepage link wont probably take to the page to perform those steps. THe link is genuine it takes us to https://www.paypal.com. Theres no problem with the link unless Rage has changed it
If you dunno something, better not speak ... Paypal will never send you such an email, if they find something unusual, they limit your account nonetheless, and that means you can receive money but cannot send it or cancel your account! If you got such an email, and you logged in you're a fool. The email comes in html format, and rage just pasted it here ... so the hyperlink is automatically done by the boards. If you wanna know what phishing is all about check the link Below www.yahoo.com. and see what you get... Abhishek
easy to figure out. log on using the type-in method, and see if your account was limited. if it is, then it's likely that it's genuine. i'd contact paypal first though.
In that case he should have posted the mail AS IT IS. You are talking to someone who has discovered SQL injections and flaws in various applications. Working as a Internet Security Manager for a top Bank in India In my email the link took me to the genuine paypal site. Anyways I am reporting bad post.
Stop promoting scammers ... grrr.... negative coming your way ... https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=login-run <~~ Check the link It's the CGI variable for Running the login command and nothing else .... Goto www.paypal.com and click on "log in" on the top right of the page and see .. it's the same dammed link! Abhishek Dude ur making me laugh ... such words from a person who claims to have discovered SQL injection flaws ? duhh... What does that mean ??? Dude PayPal never encourages it's users to click on any link from any email! It will ask you to login to Paypal.com and check your account's status .... Now.. STOP misleading the innocent webmasters! Abhishek
Was a typo it shld have been IS Manager. I posted my comments purely on the post by Rage. In his post the link is genuine. You need not be mad and insult people in here...just relax dude!!! Your red rep dint even deduct my points. Lol!!! I hope the mods take care of such peeps in here.
Whatever ... This Post is to Make clear to all the webmasters/programmers that PayPal will NEVER send you an email like this with direct linkage to the Login Page or something, these are methods used by scammers to get your Email and Password. So if you receive such an email, make sure you open a new browser and type in PayPal.com and login to your account, and if you really have some problems, it will show on top of your account details. Thanks, Abhishek
LOL... that is a scam... i receive tons of messages like that from paypal (?!) telling me to login on my paypal account using the URL they gave... the problem is... how will i login if i don't have any paypal account? now tell me that it is not a scam... haha...
Agree to the fact that yes lot of such fake emails are sent across. If you just place your mouse on the login link in the email you can see the page (in status bar) it will take you to. If Rage has pasted the email as it is from his email and the ahref to the link is same as what we see here then it is a genuine mail. If the link is pointing to a non Paypal page then its definetely a scam. Hope I make myself clear here...
I agree with Indian. Whatever he said was with respect to Rage's post. Abhishek, this is a bad habit to bad mouth about someone you dont know. Do take care about this in future. Show some amount of respect dude.
Anyone that uses the link on a email is asking for trouble. I’ve received countless emails from paypal, etc and always checked buy typing paypal.com and logging in the actual site.
All you have to do is log in with credentials you know for sure are wrong. If it says, "Thank you, your details have been updated" you know it's a scam. FWIW, I also think the link is real because VB converted what he pasted, the original href went probably to some scumbag.
Yes the link definitely is real ...thats because it got converted .. its the same link when you click on login on the top right of PayPal.com page ... but the real mail def is a scam! Abhishek
This email, i've received before, and do a report to Paypal, they did a check on the mail, and notify me that the mail wasn't from them too. If someone is using a gmail, or other email software, you can try to view the original source of the mail, and you will noticed that there is something fishy on it. To DP member, please beware of this mail. I almost fall for it. Lucky that i always click on the original source mail to check whether it is from the real sender or not. Great to have gmail.
