Ok I have a Nokia E90 Communicator listed, and a guy from Nigeria sent me a PM telling me hw would pay 900 USD for that. So i tell him that I do everything via eBay,no outside stuff(trades etc).So He sends me today an email saying that he has sent me 900 USD at my PayPal. I logged in Paypal and see no $$$... After 6 hours I recieved this(from paypal adress) Blah, blah(saying who paied me etc etc)and at the end there was this: Does that mean that I wont be able to see the 900 USD he supposely sent me unless I ship the item and provide a tracking number?wtf is that? This isthe first time I heard of that. It smells sam thats why i ask. Has anyone sent or bought stuff with more than 600USD to confirm this?
are you crazy, you are going to get scammed. DO NOT SEND even if he wants to give you $1,000,000. Dont be so stupid, never ever deal with africans
It is a scam, those emails will not be coming from paypal, do not send this guy anything. Oh, and leslie, not all "africans" are bad sellers. Sure, alot of fraudsters have created a bad situation for the whole continent but with proper vetting you can still do business. But, hell, you keep that idiotic philosophy and I'll keep the profit.
I would not be so quick to smear an entire nation of people but as to this specific case it is obviously a fraud. Whenever in doubt contact PayPal. And don't contact them using information from the email you think is suspicious. Go to https://www.paypal.com and find a contact phone number. Call them directly. Nigeria is known to be a hotbed for scammers, however, that does not mean all Nigerians are scammers. That being said, as a precaution you'd be advised not to engage in business via the Internet with persons from ANY region known to engage in Internet fraud. I'd better amend that statement because there's plenty of Internet fraud right here in the US, so you should deal in a case by case basis.
It is a scam trying to get your log in info or getting you to ship the product. Hopefully you did not log into your account through the email. Ignore and delete all those emails or report them to paypal and ebay.
Do NOT do it, it is a SCAM anybody that asks you could you send it to nigeria or africa or anywhere like that just dont even reply!! I got 5!! for my xbox 360 i had to relist it!!! Will.
I didnt plan to send it as the mails had 2 spelling errors, and I doubt a multi-billion doallr company would have emails full of errors.
I know it's galling for honest people from Africa, but even ebay singles out transactions from Africa as needing 'special attention' e.g How to Recognise a Counterfeit Cheque Scheme A seller of a high-priced item receives a request often from a foreign bidder (for example, from Africa) to accept a foreign cheque as payment or deposit for the item. http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/tp/isgw-fraud-receiving-payments.html
just to be on the really safe side.. its ussually nigeria that scams come from... just don't deal with them.. EVER i've seen that scam come through to me..
Best thing to do when doing business on the internet is to never send anything or do any service until the money is in your account and I usually transfer it as soon as it comes into my paypal and have my bank account set up electronically to make sure its being sent so then you know the money is in your hands.
We had a broken laptop on ebay listed, more for parts than anything. We have an email stating they were willing to pay $2,000 for it. I played around with them to give them a taste of their own BS, they actually faxed us a copy of a passport from Nigeria to "verify their ID before we shipped". Crazy the step they take.
well, in Turkey there is a similar auction website like ebay (gittigidiyor) and Turkish sellers being scammed by Nigerians. I think they are trying to scam you. Never sent your item before getting payment
