Yes, I know that at least a thousand DP members have already posted about their PayPal account being "limited" by the Nazi AUP unit, but today it happened to me. And I know that you can open a new PayPal account using a different email address, but that is just plain wrong. Without giving any reason, they just shut you down, hiding behind their "at our sole discretion" clause. When will the government or somebody say "enough is enough" to PayPal AUP and force them to at least let people defend themselves? After 5 years as a paying customer and having paid thousands of dollars in fees, I would at least expect a reason and a chance to defend myself!!! I have not used PayPal for either online gaming nor the sale or purchase of prescription pills! It's really about time for a legitimate alternative to Ebay's ugly payment processor! Sorry for the rant Happy Leap Day!
So what's the reasoning behind your account becoming limited? Have you started the procedure to re-establish your account to normal status?
Thanks hav0c. No reason given whatsoever. I have emailed AUP but am doubtful a reason will be given. What I have heard and read is that this usually happens when you either pay or receive funds from an individual who has used PayPal for gambling or pill-related transactions. Why they don't just terminate that individual's account instead is beyond reason! As anybody who has suffered this fate knows by now, first you receive the email that you may withdraw your funds, then you call and are read the AUP and then told to email . That is all I know so far, other than having talked to other victims and read many, many threads that once AUP "limits" your account, its all over except to open a new account. This is even more ridiculous since, either through incompetence or willful disregard of the legalities of AUP in the first place, PeePee will let you open a new account, even though you are still the same individual who supposedly either broke the sacred AUP or who they decided they no longer wished to do business with and therefore exercised their lovely "solely at our discretion" clause.
Paypal would email you the reason for the limitation even if it is just a general reasons. Alternatively, when you log into your account, you can go to the Resolution Center and see what you need to do to get your account unlimited. Call them up and get an answer to your situation.
I agree with Eddy, a reason will be given via email and via the Resolution Center, try to login and get the issue resolved, no point opening another Paypal account only to have it limited. Paypal do not limit your account out of fun, I suspect it cost more to them then to you to limit your account. Do try to find the reasons, cooperate with them to get things sorted out. It may be frustrating to deal with their support but the end results will be worth the troubles.
Thanks Jeff, Like all of AUP's unknowing victims, that is the first thing I did (within 15 minutes of receiving the email). However, what you learn after first speaking with the call center rep and then customer services is that AUP "only works by email". Supposedly will respond within 24 hours but I'm not holding my breath after hearing from several other victims that AUP never reopens an account once it has been "limited". My account is a business account, US verified with literally thousands of transactions but apparently they do not care to bother with investigations of suspected AUP violations, since that might cost EBAY shareholders money! I'll let everyone know if, when and how AUP responds. Thanks.
If it is transaction related, check back the last 7 days of transactions to see if any of them may seems suspicious. Do you still have access to your paypal account or are you completely locked out ?
Thanks Eddy, I can log in and can search transactions fine. Nothing I can see there that looks suspicious ... but then again I wouldn't know what kind of people PP allows you to receive or make payments to since you don't get a warning like"Hey, this guys owns a gambling site" or "Don't take her money, she sells pills under the counter. Funny how that would be the fault of their users and not themselves for allowing those accounts to remain open in the first place huh? At this point I have absolutely no idea why they limited my account of 5 years, which is US verified, has a perfect record and has earned them many thousands of dollars in fees. Just have to hope AUP even bothers to reply or let me know why they "limited" it. Otherwise, I guess I will just join the thousands of other victims who have to go through the hassle of opening a new account. That's some system they have over there. LOL
Ah if you can search the transactions without any problem then it does not appear that your account is limited. When I had my account limited when I hit the funds receiving threshold the only page I could see is the resolution center and nothing else. Is your account really limited or you got one of those phishing email which claims that your account is limited ? Is there anything in the Resolution Center ?
I hope not, really hope you can settle the issues and maintain your 5 year old account. Patience my friend, it really takes a lot of patience dealing with such huge online companies. Lets hope that we can hear good news from you the next time you post. Cheers!
Thanks for the kind words of encouragement. Hopefully one of these days EBAY will get around to solving their problems the right way (i.e. just shut down the accounts of people who accept gambling and prescription med payments) instead of punishing paying customers who try to abide by the rules. If you make hundreds of transactions like I do, I guess sooner or later you're bound to accept or make a payment to the wrong individual unknowingly. As you say, they are just one big bureaucracy that happens to have a monopoly and can get away with treating customers like cattle. I wouldn't despair so much except that I have yet to hear or read of anyone who has been exonerated by AUP.
Your totally right about that. My account is almost 5 years old with them also, but have been throught 4 verification processes already with them. I have also heard many nasty stories and even lost money to scam artists while paypal rules the case in their favor. I guess they cant manage to cope with their own growth, and a company that cant do that will sooner or later see a larger DB of unhappy customers, and when a suitable replacement is offered, you might see millions leave PP. DL
Beware PayPal users. AUP can and will limit/close your account at will. After many emails and phone calls I was told my 5 year old account was closed because AUP suspected that I own a web site that may link to sites that provide information about online gambling. Upon speaking to the highest level manager in their call center, I was informed that PayPal had "made a business decision that cannot be reversed" to close my account. They have so many customers they basically don't care. They do not give you a chance to remediate or dispute anything. It may take 25 years or so, but with their total lack of customer care, sooner or later PayPal must die a slow death.... On the other hand, opening a new PeePee account takes minutes and is quite simple .... complete idiots.
False accusation with no right to either dispute or remediate; basically AUP makes the calls in order to protect EBAY from further Fed fines and nobody over there gives a damn about customers since they have so many anyway and usury is their whole business model. Besides; who can control what a site one links to may decide to put on its own pages? Even if you did have a link to a "gambling" site, how is that anything you could control? I could link to your site today and you could put up anything you please tomorrow; sell pills, porn, online gambling, you name it. And worse yet, is that the U.S. government runs the biggest gambling outfit the world has ever seen with "state lotteries" raking in billions. Nice. I wonder if its against AUP to link to a state lottery site? LOL
