I'm about to make my own paypal account as I've never really needed one before and if I did I just used my mums.

Anyways, I'm in a clan and we want to buy a server. Everyone is going to donate to my account ($10 each) and we'll buy one. My question is what are these paypal fees and how much are they? So should I get my clan to donate $12 (leaving $2 for fees?)

    Thanks

If you want to collect Donations then you will need to sign up for the Premier or Business account.

If you are from the US

Looking at the fees https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-fees-outside , you should be levied a fee of 2.9% + 30 cents

For $12, this works out to be 65cents in fees so you should get about $11.35 in your account.

Otherwise, look at fees https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-fees-outside&countries=ROW , you will be levied a fee of 3.4% + 30 cents

For $12, this works out to be 71cents, you should get about $11.29 in your account.

    Well I'm in Australia.

I just created a personal account. I'm going to be receiving money from friends, 2 via paypal and 1 via direct deposit. I take it both will get fee'd 3.4 percent?

There is no fees associated with the personal account but receiving money from friends is okay as long as they have existing paypal funds. But do not call it donations because you are not permitted to receive donations via a personal account.
