Paypal gambling question

I had a look at the Paypal AUP about gambling here.

    http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/ua/use/index_frame-outside&ed=gambling

Is it ' illegal ' to receive money for poker/gambling/sports betting advertising on your site via Paypal ?

If you accept money, would you then come under this line as stated in their AUP ?

" Intermediaries facilitating the process of placing bets "

If you aren't allowed to receive money for this purpose, which processor do you use ?

Online Gaming is prohibited in the US and online gaming can be a great platform for money laundering. I supposed Paypal and most main stream payment processors would not want to be associate with them.

I supposed you can use e-gold or Moneybookers. With Moneybookers, as long as you comply to this http://www.moneybookers.com/app/help.pl?s=terms , you are fine.

Pervert, I haven't done a single transaction in this regard yet.

I've seen plenty of people doing it in the BST, and wondered whether any of them had read the AUP.

So if you are not a US resident, or the sender is not a US resident, it wouldn't be advisable to do this via Paypal.

I dont think there should be problem with that.
You are only accepting advertising payment (not directly involved in gambling )

But how will they know that you are getting payment for gambling advertisements ?

If that's the case, I wouldn't be allowed to send/receive money via PayPal with two leading bookmakers I have accounts with who accept PayPal.

I recently had my account limited by PayPal as they were (wrongly) of the impression that I was taking payments from people in India (two transactions which were for some work I had done for ) and transferring to one of my accounts to place bets for them. I explained the situation to PayPal, and my restrictions were removed right away.

Read my statement about the intermediaries bit. I'm not sure, but if you have private advertisements on your site, aren't you indirectly facilitating the process ?

I could think of two situations offhand-

1.)If somebody writes the nature of the transaction in the note/heading.

2.) Somewhere, sometime Paypal finds out that the account which has sent you money is associated with gambling, and your account, having received money, comes into scrutiny because of this.

I'm not saying it is betting Meethere, I'm simply asking somebody whether an advertisement could be interpreted that way.

How does a user come to the betting site ? From your site, right ? So what do you become ? Theoretically, a middleman or an intermediary.

    yes, I understood your question.
tell the payer not to put gambling details in the paypal fields, or tell him to add something else like "web desigin service, advertising etc "
And keep withdrawing your payment from that account or keep the least amount ;)

This question has been discussed lot of time while directory submissions.
In paid directory submission, the url is visible in the paypal details. Many accounts got banned. Those directory owners mailed paypal that it's just a form of advertisement - Some were unbanned while some not. ;)

I remember the debate that went on regarding gambling links in directories ;)

I suppose Moneybookers might be safer, although it may not do any harm to e-mail Paypal and ask them whether it is allowed.

Be very careful using any major payment processors to fund online gambling in the United States. In recent months, these transaction have become very difficult and it can be very risky to try to move large amounts of money when account freezes and holds have become common for many online gamblers. Take care!
