It is called a phishing email. Search for phishing on this forum or google for more information.

I get 5-10 of these a day to one of my email addresses.

Kind of curious on why these people arent getting caught.

I was wondering the same thing .. cant they trace them ?

Anyways, IE7 and FF 2+ now have Phishing check . they'll alert you as soon as you enter a suspected phishing site .. :)

Yes, send it to Paypal. In fact, a few years back I had to call them about a new one and I spoke with a representative who confirmed that it was false.

I receive these quite often too. The easiest way to figure out whether or not it is a scam is by looking at who it is addressed to. All e-mails from Paypal will start out with "Dear (Your Name Here)", not "Dear Paypal Member".

Thank you for the Great tip depiction. Will keep in mind this one , though I have received only one such email till now. Also Paypal will never post any link in the mails?
Small suggestion for such thread starters don't put live links in the posts.
I am just wondering how our PP emails are disclosed :(

I'm not sure, but Paypal includes your full/partial name when sending emails, correct?
