I was wondering if there is anyway to not get charged fees by Paypal when someone sends you money for a sale.

I sold a link for $13, then got charged $0.74 in Paypal fees! It was $0.61 as a Basic Fee & $0.13 for a Cross-Border Fee.

Not sure if user paid via credit card, but could this have been charged because of that???

If its really bad, you can close your account and open a new one.... but if you have positive feedbacks on paypal I wouldn't recommend it! I have no idea why they won't let us downgrade...

Good thing buyers don't have to pay a fee. To be honest, I've never really noticed the fees or paid attention to them.

Lol, doesn't some of it go towards some Paypal charity or something? I've heard that somewhere before. Maybe I'm crazy though.

the best way to reduce fees is to have buyers send payment through their balance and sell larger orders all at once.

But some of us just have to upgrade.. I know I had to :( if you go through a lot of transactions... upgrading is a must. And especially if you're a business, its more professional to have your business's name attached to your account than your full name.. imo

yeh i have personal now, with personal u can only accept 6 cc payments from other people per year, i have only had it for a month, already accepted 3, once thats over i will upgrade, premier charge fees for everything
personal only charge fees for direct debit payments, meaning people send u the money straight from there credit card to your paypal, rather than into there account then getting sent.

Fees is not charged in a Personal Account BUT to accept the CC payment , you need to have a premier / business account and a fee is charged on these accounts for every transactions .
Also , a person is allowed to have one personal and one premier / business account so use personal account to bypass the fee but accpet CC payments in premier/business account !!

I do a lot of low value transactions and the fees drive me nuts. Its not so bad on a big payment, because the percentage is quite low, but there's a base charge on top of the percentage, and you really feel that when you're taking lots of smaller payments.

If you rarely take credit card payments could you set up an un-upgraded account and use that most of the time instead?

Currency exchanging bothers me the most, they undercut the conversion rate a lot.
