PayPal Fees::No Fees?

    Sometimes when I receive payment for services via PayPal I am not charged a fee [2.9% + $.30 USD-- under $1000.00]. Other times I am. I have a business account and the payments do not come under the heading of "donation". Is there a payment type that is exempt from fees?

    An existing PayPal account balance from a business that uses the service [PayPal] often might be the answer. Could it be that others that are paid from the same company are not using PayPal business accounts and it is assumed I am a personal PayPal user too-- and therefore not subject to a fee?

    That said-- PayPal would know I am a business customer.

    The fees are only when receiving the money. It dosen't matter what account they have thats sending you the money, I have had some bank transfer have no fees in my business account. Everything else has fees.

    Well, I was told by Paypal's staff that if you receive money from Mass Pay, there would not be any fees. At least that is my experience. Any other incoming funds would have fees attached to it.

    Check https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_batch-payment-overview-outside for Mass Pay.

    Basically, Mass Pay is typically used as a mechanism for vendors to pay their affiliates or employer to pay their employees through Paypal. You can find all the details above. In the case, the sender is being charged a fee for sending the money and the one who receives the money is not charged a fee.

    Typically, Mass Pay is not a one-to-one fund transfer method but it is a one-to-many. Think of it like what the Payroll department does at the end of the pay week, where they will remit the total funds for salary to the bank and provide them with instructions on who to pay for how much.

    For Mass Pay, Paypal does not levy a fee on the one receiving the money because he is not selling anything through paypal in the first place. I believe the buyer is charged 2% and capped at $1 per payment. They will need to fund the mass pay through a bank account and not through credit card.

    Yes, I think you are right-- I did not send an invoice nor use the shopping cart to receive the funds. That is why the PayPal fee was not levied.
