There are no fees if you are using a personal acount. Only when you upgrade to a business account or recieve funds from credit card sources does paypal charge you :)

Nope. I wouldn't recommend upgrading it at all. I did it once accidentally, then had to start a new acc because i didn't know how to downgrade and was sick of fees.

You can remain with the personal account but there are limits. I upgraded because it was hard to sell on eBay because many people want to pay by credit card. If you do not upgrade, you need to state in your auction that you will only take funds from paypal cash accounts. Otherwise, you may be waiting a long time for payment or you may piss off your buyer.

I agree the fees suck but you open up a whole new field of buyers if you upgrade. If you plan on doing a lot on eBay, you will most likely find the need to upgrade.

I wold sell it yourself, you can not trust anyone with that money. I do not think you will find a buyer though with that kind of money sitting in Paypal. They will most likely need to use a credit card.

So if I understand it correctly, upgrading your personal isn't good, but it is ok to make a new one?

And then make that new one a business account?

Difference Between Personal, Premier and Business Account:

Personal account is, as the name itself explain, for personal use only. You can use Personal account to send funds to your friends, relatives, and for purchasing items online.
You may not use Personal account for any thing commercial(selling stuffs and services). Being a seller, in short. You have to use a Premier or Business account.

You can accept up to 5 credit cards per year.

    No fee on any transaction.

Once you hit over $3,000/month, PayPal would freeze your account.
Do remember, it's not allowed by PayPal to use Personal account for commercial use, and they may charge fees on every transaction if they find it out. (scary?)

Premier account is for the people who're selling stuffs, and would be doing high transactions.
You're able to accept unlimited credit card payments.
Fee is applied on every transaction.

Business account allows you to do business under a company or group name. Do not open a business account if you're not a registered company and can't provide documents of it.
You can accept unlimited credit card payments.
    Multiple access.
Fee is applied on every transaction.

Read more about their fees here.

You can only sign up one Personal and either one Premier or one Business account.

Try not using any VCC to verify your account. People who do, usually end up by getting their account limited.

End of the story; Open one Premier and Personal account. Try using Premier account most of the time, though. PayPal do deserve fees on your transactions, it’s just not ‘ok’ to save some cents and end up losing all the K’s.

PS: We’ve a section for payment processor’s discussion here. :)

That's actually not an allowable thing to do with eBay. The terms state that you must accept all forms of payment (account balance, credit card etc.) if you accept PayPal.

I personally would rather lose a few cents rather then lose a source of revenue.
