Paypal-Dispute-Chargeback-Digital-Product/Service

OK, I bought some unique articles here on DP and upon receiving them I noticed they were duplicated content from the web.

I exchanged PM/Emails with the seller to no avail. SO I then opened a dispute with Paypal against the transaction. Their automated response when I escalated the claim rejected me due to the item in question was a service/digital product. Even though I uploaded all the needed proof that I was scammed and ripped off.

My next step is that I want to file a chargeback with my credit card company that I have connected to Paypal. My question or concern is that the chargeback goes directly to Paypal and not the scammer, so if I get my money back from my credit card, will Paypal still hold me accountable and try to get that money from any of my other accounts? How will this play out?

    Thanks,

    Greg

i am not sure with paypal but i had this happen with google checkout. google will send the sell an e-mail explaining the charge back request. the sell then has to document the situation and google then decides who is in the right or wrong. paypal probably does the same i guess.

Paypal does not cover virtual products. If someone at DP scammed you I suggest you give them bad Rep, highlight them and report them with proof to Administrators. I am quite sure scammers are not welcome here at DP.

Not much you can do, post his email and details around the web giving him a bad name, it's as best as you are going to get unfortunatly :(

    I agree with MKHost

Did you pay a high amount for the articles?

If you paid the scammer out of your paypal funds your plan won't do much because your credit card company won't know about the charge.

However, I assume this is not the case.

If you paid them using the scammer through paypal with the credit card on file with them then YES - you can charge back. This takes the money back from paypal and they, in turn, do take it back from the person you paid.

I don't think they "retaliate" though.

I payed $85 total, $65 was charged to my credit card via Paypal and $20 from my Paypal balance. So maybe I can chargeback the $65.

I was just thinking if Paypal couldn't recoup the $65 from the scammer they would take a credit from my account through other means.

I did leave appropriate negative itrader info on this person and posted the issues on their post. It now appears if the scammer's PM folder is full and they have left the forum. I guess that is the good news.

I would not charge back against paypal or you will lose your account. It just depends if thats worth the $65 you will lose short-term. And yes, if paypal has the chance, they will take your money out of your bank account or any other method they can.

Thanks VentureFox. That was my fear and concern that you just confirmed. $65 is a lot at the moment, but not worth losing my Paypal account over and not worth the hassle if PP can still "keep" that money.

What a bummer. I guess I chalk this up to a learning experience.:(
