i just put a paypal "pay now" button on my website, but am annoyed at the fact that anyone can click it and get a paypal page with my registered e-mail address at the top. this obviously opens me to spam. no payment is neccessary. i've seen other buttons that dont do this and just show a name, but can't find how to configue my account to prevent this. i get enough spammers from ebay as it is!
You might have given the email address as the business name. Go to your account profile and click on Business Information and then select business name change and see what is given there. If it is an email address change that to your business name.
It seems that you are using Paypal Premier account. That is why it is showing your email address when clicking on the paypal button. In order to display the business name, you will have to upgrade your account to business. After upgrading the account, kindly go to Profile => Add Business Information => Give the business name. This business name will appear on the payment page.
You can add up to 5 email address in your paypal account. Why don't you make a new email for it? If your paypal account is only personal that is the best way or upgrade it to premier
Yeah, just make a new Gmail account and hook it up as your primary Email in PayPal. That way all your spammers will see that.
Actually, the email serves two purposes. One which would allow your customer to identify that they are dealing with the right person and second is so that they can contact you if they require support for what you are selling. On your end, you could add Spam checks and controls on your server and email client, that should eliminate most spam and allows you to be upfront with your customers.
I checked the demo in business account and the email is revealed only after the transaction is made. Not sure of Premier account...maybe you need to switch to business account. https://www.paypalobjects.com/WEBSCR-525-20080701-1/en_US/i/demo/demo_WA_8.gif
But the button itself does have the email address in it. One option is to encrypt the email address and use Javascript to decrypt it before the submit. I'm going to be googling around to find such a script myself in the next few days. The down side of that is that people who limit javascript on their browsers won't be able to buy. But it does save your addy from email harvesting bots.
Just make a NEW email. Paypal is accepting 5 email addresses. 1 Paypal Account = 5 emails If your account is premier your business name will be shown instead of email address Make your real email the default paypal email and add the one you created. You will only use the new email to hide your real email add. So what if spam bots send tons of mails to it? You will not use it to send or receive mail, once you verified the email and added to your paypal account you will not use that email anymore. All money sent there can be accessible also to your real email address. All that 5 email is consider only as one account. Hope you understand what I mean.
Thanks for the tips my account is premier you are allowed up to eight email adresses registered to your pp account, so i registered a disposible one. once i verified the address belongs to me, i then made it my default pp address. i then had to create a new button for my site, as the existing one still pointed to my private email. success! thanks
