PayPal ATM/debit card needs SSN?

    Hi,

    I am US resident.

I was wondering if getting PayPal ATM/debit card needs SSN or I can just get it by adding a credit card?

I also heard that .. after making like 2000-3000$ in the paypal account, Paypal can one fine day suddenly ask me to verify my SSN or my account will be frozen. Is this true?

    Comments?

    Thanks

Well, it seems to be true if you accept high level of credit card transactions according to https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webs...rior_transaction_id=713223&answer_id=16777216

I think you need an SSN to add a bank account now. Paypal had to get them for tax purposes for US residents.

I did not give them my SS number when I signed up. They have some sort of variable rate CD that earns interest and for that they do demand the SS but not for opening a regular account. But then again I signed up more than 5 years ago.

I won't give them my SSN, but they did send me a debit card with a MasterCard logo. A SSN is usually only needed for interest bearing accounts. Since I am not relying on Paypal to earn me any interest, they don't need my SSN
