PayPal applied reserve to my account

Recently, PayPal have placed a reserve on a percentage of the funds flowing through my account. I see the following message when I log in:

We have applied a reserve to your account. A certain percentage of each day's transactions or a minimum dollar amount will need to remain in your account.

Is this a general change in policy or does it mean they consider my transactions a little risky?

Before about 6 months ago they would have shut your account down, but since a policy change regarding high-risk accounts, they are doing this instead.

Generally they do this based on specific risk related criteria: sales volume, chargebacks, product type, etc... It's not by any means an across the board policy change. Also, if you keep your chargebacks low, it's possible to have them life it after a few months.

    Hi jestep,

    Thanks for the response.

I have never had a chargeback on my account.

I assume the reason is because I have received funds from people who do perform chargebacks frequently?
