It's impossible to track MAC address for every users. IP and MAc address are different in OSI model. When we are using web browsers, they can only track our IP (NOT MAC address), If they need to find our MAC address there are different ways. So web browsing is not enough to get MAC address.
No way, you cant track MAC address with a web service since this information is only with router in the first hop. Cookies and IP address are the only way they recognize you. Clear these two things and you are ready with new account
You are correct MAC address and IP is totally different in Internet applications. So no need to worry.
@harrisunderwork @blog8491 You both are wrong data consist of packets. MAC address and IP Address of Source And Destination is stored in Packet's header. for example if you sent a file to me through MSN, i can easily track your IP Address and MAC Adress so PayPal can too, because you connect to their website
I wouldn't worry about PayPal getting ahold of your MAC address it's those other sites I'm worried about.
@Radz Lol , msn file sharing works on p2p system man. When you transfer file it directly connects to you pc, not between intermediate router. When you connect to a website, you connect to intermediate routers and not directly to server of website, so how can you get mac address. You better read the RFC's. Thanks
hey I know it. If someone use packet capture tool like wireshark, then they can find it. Hope paypal is not doing packet capturing. They only see web browsers. But you were talking about file sharing (peer to peer), that's completely different with web browsing.
I know what i am saying.... no matter what you do internet and what are protocols (p2p, www, ftp) we sent and receive data in packet format, and IP address and MAC Address of source and destination stored in header of packet. This is what i am trying to say and There are hundreds of third party software available which can convert packets into binary & decimal.
50 % correct 50 % wrong, MAC address of destination, how come you know this while u r still making your for it ? MAC address of ur pc is only known to your first router. Thats it. I think there is no reference here
This is a simple thing in Networking. Normally paypal can't deal with packet capturing, since they are busy. So it can't be tracked by a web browser.
^^^ ^^^ Guys i might be wrong about source MAC Address being stored in packet's header, because currently i am learning first Module of CCNA my knowledge isn't strong about mac addressing yet anyways if you have read "How Google Adsense detects Fraud Clicks" as i remember they track by isp, ip, os, screen resolution, mac address etc etc They are WWW giants.. so i guess they can track us easily P.S: i remember one time when i was chatting with microsoft's customer support officer, he even didn't asked me my admin password & ip address and connected to my pc remotely to fix the problem
I Think to obtain mac id they would atleast need a software installed on the computer which sends details about the comp but i think thats called spyware
Well actually I have read Computer Networks in graduation. Anyways Big G combats using ISP, IP,OS,Screen Resolution, User Agent,Referer, Your Ecpm, Your CTR and everything else I cant think of EXCEPT mac address. They put all these things in a algorithm and that algorithm gives output at legit or fraud. This is just my opinion and not a conclusion. I think this thread can help us to increase our knowledge
