Okay lets say you wanted to make a business where your staff makes articles and they get a percentage of the revenue that is generate from their article page. What percentage do you think would be fair to pay out to them and for you to keep?
I have dealt with this in the past. The percentage ought to be a set scale that would be dependant on the amount of research involved, and man hours needed to do the article. Also another criteria would be the experience and expertise of the writer. (1)-novice writers #payscale 1 (2)-intermediate writers #payscale 2 (3)-experienced writers #payscale 3 How many words in the article also would need to be addressed.
Whatever you decide as you are the one paying. But I would offer double for all technical articles as they are a lot of work as to research. Best thing to do before you decide on percentage is to discuss with a few writers first, and come up with a payment plan that is good for both parties. May I suggest that you post an inquiry as to this subject on Content Creation forum, so you can get a feel for what the writers on DP feel would be fair. Good luck to you with this.
The quickest way to find out would be to consult the writers. Ask them what they think a fair percentage is - you may be surprised. Base your commissions on that. I disagree with different pay levels, it overcomplicates it. If you're only splitting revenue from their own articles, it was their article that generated the revenue - regardless of how long it took them to write it.
It's a little sneaky, but you could go to a site like UpWork and post a job looking for a content writer for your blog. Wait for people to respond and then let them know about your intentions to create this site. Ask them if they think it's a good idea, then ask what percentage they would be happy working on. Technically this would be against their terms of use, but I don't see it causing much harm and you may find that you actually attract some writers to get started with.
There are so many sites offering rewards for writers that a bit of market research (aka leg work) will let you know what the going rate is.
Okay, sounds good, thanks for your expert input. Offering different pay levels has nothing to do with writing, and has everything to do with sales and business. How this person decides to run their business is up to them - I'm only contributing my ideas.
Hi: As mentioned before, check out several of the more popular sites and see what they charge and share with writers. You may want to reward writers that have a following. If someone uses your service and one writer does good work and then is requested by several new customers then that writer should be rewarded with a higher split than another writer who receives low reviews.
