payment from non-paypal members

I think this is a newb question!

I setup a paypal business account because I thought people could then pay me by credit card without having to sign up to paypal themselves.
But if i use 'pay now' buttons it is still asking the user to sign up to paypal.

Is there a way to ask for credit card payments through paypal without the payer having to sign up?

    Cheers

I don't think so. Both the sides should be a member of Paypal.

Well, actually after clicking on the Buy Now button, on the right hand side would be the option to log into Paypal and on the left hand side there is a small link above the Credit Cards logo to pay directly using a credit card.

The buyer just need to be from a supported paypal country in order to pay you.

Actually, I do see the link on the left hand side but instead of being in English, it is all in French

Trouble is apart from the fact it's in french (a different problem - I'm in france but my customers aren't) the choice here is different:

'Ouvrez un compte paypal et continuez la procedure'' means 'Open a paypal account and continue to payment' - so exactly what I am trying to avoid - I don't want people to have to open a paypal account

How did eddy2099 get his screenshot? is that a different type of paypal account?

Well, when I click on that link, i see it asking me what type of credit card I am using and from my limited understanding of french, it did ask for my mailing address, it does seems to appear that it was just to complete the payment.

It is certainly not a different type of paypal account, I just have a Premier account.

Try this . This is for an imaginary service. Don't anyone buy it unless you want to give me money and get nothing back ;) lol

thanks eddy, I bought 2 of your test items...

strange, I still don't understand how my link shows "Sign up for a PayPal account and continue checkout." and yours shows "Don't have a PayPal account? Use your credit card or bank account (where available). Continue"

    What am I doing different?

I don't think it is because you have a french paypal account but I guess perhaps you should contact paypal and see what they can advise you.

Technically the non-credit card options would be for personal paypal account only and should not happen for a business account as you can receive credit cards and paypal payments.

Thanks all, I found the answer somewhere else - not from paypal who didn't seem to know.
You can turn on a 'paypal account optional' setting under Website Payment preferences in your profile. I think some countries its on by default, others its off, and its a bit hard to find, but seems to do the job.
    Cheers
