Hi Guys, I have a genuine question which I think all web designers, Intermarketing Specialist and Seo Face in Business (especially in India,Pak,Bangla and Sri Lanka) What if your client say that Payment will be done after completing project?Will you accept it? Please clarify my doubts since most clients (especially from India) says like this. Should I accept it or not? Please guide.
No, but you should show him why he can trust you and pay you before you do the actual work.. If he see some signs that you might be scammer he would probably want this.. But who knows maybe he is a scammer if he didn't show you why you should trust him.. When I do my work, I always ask payments first and then I do the work.. If he refuses, I just send him to the fuc**** place he came from.. Show him that you don't actual need him and that he is not only buyer of your services.. If he is not changing his opinion, just say you are not going to do this and that he should find someone who will..
50% upfront, of even better - escrow - would be optimal. Personally I don't like paying upfront for service providers that I simply can't trust, and they usually won't accept half payment. In this case I just pass on them as well, too much scammers around.
Unless you're still developing your business charging 50% would be the way to start it. But if you've been in business for a while and got good responses from your customer, why underestimate / underevaluate yourself and your work? Just charge the whole damn thing. Just like SliceOfLife mentioned, if you charge nothing before the work is done or if you only change 50%, chances are you will be scammed practically every single time.
no easy answer there.... recently, one of my developers was short on cash, so i paid him 100% in advance for his current project, but for him, hes been working on my projects continuously for over 2 years now... For anyone I meet on the forum, im sorry, but the number of scammers is just too high. For people on the forum, I would be happy to pay in milestones. I think if you run a legitimate company, then yes, people would be more trusting to pay a deposit to a company (rather then some randomer from a forum). Just keep in mind that the very first time that I hired a reputable forum member for a quick development job (at a fair and reasonable rate per hour) at 50% in advance... taught me the lesson of paying in milestones, never in advance. On the flipside... I too realise how many freeloaders there are here that never pay.... I think payment in milestones is still one of the best options (well aside from using escrow that is)
Nope,It should be like 50% before work and 50% after a work completion..You have to Impress him by giving him good examples of your work that you have done..
I wouldn't accept it either. If we are talking about a new client, then you better have an agreement with him about the payment. I wouldn't recommend getting payment after completing the work. Just like others were saying, it is important to let the clients know that we can be trusted and we are good at what we do. In this way, the client will agree on the upfront payment.
Always upfront payments, saves so much hassle. After a customer becomes a long-term client, we may agree to payment in arrears providing a watertight contract is in place. All in all though, we even try to avoid this option unless it's exceptional circumstances. WebDe
It really depends on your reputation and how much work you have. If you are new and just starting out, then taking on a project with no pay can help you build your reputation and portfolio, which is very valuable experience. However, if you met the person from a forum like this one and they have just a few posts and no reputation as a buyer, then it's a huge risk - especially if you are already loaded with enough work to keep you busy. In most cases, it is acceptable to take 50% payment upfront and the rest after the job is completed. Large projects should have some sort of payment upfront, otherwise you will risk wasting way too much time when you could have found a customer who is willing to pay upfront. Also, many Americans are skeptical of purchasing services from people in other countries, especially people from India, as there are many scammers out there. Do you realize how much spam I get from web developers and SEO freelancers in India? It seems risky to pay for a large project upfront if you don't know you can trust the person or company. There are many factors involved, just do what you have to do to get started and build a reputation - and then try to get 100% payment upfront. I don't mind doing 50/50, as the first 50% gets me motivated to start the project and the next 50% motivates me to finish it.
Really depends on your business as well. Are you a start-up ? You need to take chances while starting a business but ensure the client is not a Scammer. We did face such situation while we were starting our business, we found a solution of Escrow payment. You can even get a contract done which can be digitally signed by the customer. Still you have to pick the Right one's by your own judgement when dealing with payments later on.
It all depends on the amount to be honest. I tend to have contracts I establish with all my clients and most contracting jobs are 50% up front and 50% upon completion. If hourly wage is negotiated, after contract is signed, I invoice the client every week. This methods have worked well for me so far with little to no problems.
Upfront payment or milestone payment would be good but don't release your full work until you got your full payment. weekly/bi-weekly payment would be good if you are working in good project. You can show him/her your work progress daily/weekly so it will be a good process to get paid for what you have done.
