I decided to try out adwords for 2 of my sites www.templatebase.net and www.w3hits.comand I boosted the bids pretty high. Anyways I didnt get any direct sales off them and I was wondering if you are to pay a lot less (have a lower ranking) is it worth it? Are you still getting targetted traffic do you think?

If were not getting conversions I'd look at refining your landing page a bit more. You'll still get traffic at lower bids (assuming your keywords stay active).

The trick to adwords is really two things:

    1. Capitalize on low-frequency low price leywords
    2. Be descriptive in your ads

If you target thousands of low price keywords instead of only a few high price keywords - you can usually get the same/more traffic at a lower cost.

If your ads are descriptive you can deter wasted click thruoughs. A user may click on an ambiguous ad and then realize that the site isnt what they were looking for. Instead, let the user know exactly what they will find when they get to your site - so, if they click, they are more likely to convert.

If you want more explanation of these concepts, I made a post on my blog about this here: Google Adwords Tips
