?

Do fellow advertisers find that they are paying for clicks that are too generic?

We're all in agreement that this is one of the best forms of advertising for our customers today.....but how do we avoid the costly clicks of people that are merely looking for information and/or articles on what is seemingly relevant search keywords?

This is easily countered by building a great negative keyword list. Most people fail to realize that a negative keyword list is just as important as your regular keywords. Using negative keywords like "free, blueprints, diy" etc, can vastly lower your cpc.

I am definitely in agreement.....and have already done that, however there is, in my humble opinion, a vast amount of waste with people searching on the web for a myriad of inquiries that really not little to do with the services or goods that an advertiser may have available. I wonder if anyone has a better work-around for that quandry!?

Another way to combat this is check off your expensive keywords and click the option "show search terms". Adding these keywords will ensure you are bidding on the exact keywords that are searched for. Once you pull these out, you can also pause the original term.

    Yes. Choose better keywords.
If your clicks are too 'generic' it's your own fault.
Don't use broad match, run search query reports frequently, and get rid of anything that doesn't convert.

You're making the assumption my keywords are not good.....I beg to differ. That being said....have you noticed that you are penalized if you try to be specific in the application of your keywords. For example....if someone wanted, let's say, to have a shoe repaired....perhaps that person may search for [shoe repair] or [repair shoes].....but that could bring up results about how to repair your shoes when what you're looking for is a shoe repair store/person. BUT if you put that in the keywords [shoe repair store] you could in fact get POOR under keyword quality score and your ad may not show. Coincidence? I'm not quite sure.......seems very telling to me.......
