It is really easy to generate leads, rather making sales. But commissions are less in lead generation. Even if you make one sale, you get 50% commission. So both has to seen in a different way of marketing and depends on the affiliate skills which one to promote either sales or lead.

Well I represent TONS of pay per sale programs
so I know the ranges and it TOTALLY depends what you are selling.

Many retail products only have a 5-10% commission. (Amazon and some electronics pay even less than 5%)
    So if it's a $100 sale you only make 5 - 10$

When you say 50% commission you are referring to ebooks and
info products I assume. So if it's a $50 ebook you may get $25.
    If it's a $10 product you only make 5.

Some leads pay up to $30 or even more and the prospect
does not have to spend a dime.

But still lead gen is not for everyone and it still takes effort and skill
as does any type of legit affiliate marketing.

Linda is correct... tere are no hard and fast rules as to which metric provides the higher commissions... it all comes down to the individual program.

Forgot to mention the Director of Marketing in charge of the affiliate program too
is a friend of mine - Laura Lake.

Many of you may have already had the pleasure of working with her when she was with Partner Centric.
Laura is also the Marketing Guide at About.com so you have probably read her article there.

Anyway sharp company with great payouts. Let me know if you have any questions
either here or at their dedicated 5 Star forum.

    Thanks,
