Pay Per Blog - Effective? If so, best sites?

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by jrbiz, Feb 18, 2009.

How is pay per blog working for you these days? Is it an effective way to get exposure to your products? Any pitfalls to avoid or things to definitely do?

Finally, what are the best pay per blog websites? TIA.

Has anyone here done this effectively? I was testing out PayPerPost.com and sometimes they require you to put a bright green button on your posts as a disclaimer. It turned me off.

I'd rather try to keep my integrity as a writer by only blogging services I really like. I like the idea of getting commission for plugging a useful product for my readers. I wouldn't want my readers to know that I'm getting paid, though.

    Anyone agree with these sentiments?

Teo123, what did you apply for and with whom?

rcavezza. I was not aware of payperpost's requirement. That would turn me off as a buyer, as well.

The Payperpost disclosure button appears on about 1 in every 100 opportunities, if you don't like it you don't have to take those ones :)

jrbiz are you looking at this as a potential advertiser, or as someone hoping to make money from your blog?

Reality: I am looking at this as a potential buyer for a new company that should be launching in 2-3 months. I am interested in any experiences, good or bad, that buyers may have had with this medium. I am also interested in what pitfalls there are to avoid, what level of granularity there is in targeting, best sites, etc.

Lowdown on what it takes to be accepted for payperpost.com

This is part of the body of an exact email I received.

    ============================================

Unfortunately, your blog cannot be accepted at this time.

In order to be accepted to the PPP Marketplace, your blog must be at least 90 days old with 20 clearly written English language posts produced throughout that time.

Blogs must be made up primarily of posts that are at least 3-5 sentences of original content. We do not accept blogs with non-original content, blogs that have content primarily re-posted from other sources, or blogs that are posted solely for promotional/commercial purposes.

Please take a look at our Terms of Service Section at http://payperpost.com/company/tos.html for more specifics.

Please re-submit when your blog meets all of our requirements. In the meantime, feel free to use PPP Direct and Affiliate tools while you work on meeting the requirements of our Marketplace!

So, it seems like no one on this forum is really using pay per blog as an advertising channel? I guess that this may be a message in and of itself...

We've used payperpost.com with a degree of success. The old saying applies here as well: you get what you pay for ;)

sunnysinglohia: thanks for the additional site.

Moltar2000: would you mind sharing some details about your campaign? What you were selling, how many posts you bought, results, etc.? I do not have the slightest idea as to what to expect.

My only suggestion if you decide to go with Payperpost is that you should pay a fair amount per post. They recently changed their pricing structure, from a minimum opp price of $10 ($5 for them, $5 for the postie) to just $2 ($1 for them, $1 for the postie) -- it might sound good but in reality only those with poor quality blogs, usually 99% sponsored content, will take such low paying opps -- most of the even half decent blogs won't take any thing for less than $5 and if you start expecting 200 words, 3 links, PR4 etc etc for a few dollars you have no chance.

If you want quality and relevant blogs only on Payperpost you need to pay for it.

I would recommend Payperpost if you want a PR boost.
Socialspark if you want to create buzz/get traffic.
Sponsored Reviews if you want to hand pick the blogs/bloggers that work for you.

I use pay per post and social spark as both a blogger and advertiser. Realitytvfan is right as to pricing. I personally will not take anything under $5 but rarely do that unless it is a very good fit for my blog. Usually I'm looking at $7 or more for my post.

Also keep in mind when advertising with pay per post that most of the best bloggers there do not have page rank. We all have been slapped but they still get the traffic they did before.

Thanks Realitytvfan and cristlegirl. Great input. I find it interesting that only four sites have been listed in the thread, to date. I would have guessed that there were dozens or more of them.
