Dmoz will loose its share soon. Look yahoo is spicing up its search engine. Look MSN is up in gears. So, soo people may be using yahoo, msn more than google.

Yahoo,MSN may even merge (only search engine though).

So, dmoz may be just more than any other directory lister.
    So be patient.

    I agree to your view
BUT dmoz has one thing that can keep it alive: you can use its contents on your website for free. So, with adsense fever, more people will use it for their sites as rich content.

So, I think it will take much longer to be just a directory.

    I disagree.
If more and more people cut copy paste content from DMOZ onto their site, then they are duplicating the content and increasing the burden and efforts of google. That is exactly what google doesnot want us to do.
Get your own original content and stay online.

Again, DMOZ also doesnot list sites with duplicate content and features. So...

Well, you say this because you are not a dmoz editor. I mean you don't really know what goes on there.

DMOZ encourages webmasters to use their data dump (webmasters do not copy and paste) and lists them in a special directory. So, they already get the exposure they need at the directory and the search engines.

Google does ban duplicate contents. But it is your mission to use the contents in a different way of presentation and distribution.

Again, I agree with you that dmoz is not developing fast enough. But this doesn't mean that it could lose its ranking as the largest and best human edited directory.

May be the problem is that it hasn't attracted enough pedophiles yet, I am sure with proper advertising about DMOZ usefulness for certain groups it can attract 1000's in a very short time. ;)

That's correct. And that was my suggestion, which was ignored, at the editors' forums :)

It was a huge thread about suggestions to develope dmoz and make it better. My suggestion was to advertise the stats of dmoz and to pay much attention to its relationship with google (I noticed that google verrrry slowly updates its directory). More webmasters using dmoz contents means much more success of course.
