Password on Folders

    Does anyone know of a free program to install in order to password protect folders on a website. I want to be able to put a username/password.

    Can't do it thru Frontpage etc it's for a customer that won't be able to do that.

    First of all, what type of server are you using? IIS or Linux Apache.

    do you use linux cPanel... then its very easy to do it from your control panel just let me know which one you use?

    in linux if you have cpanel then its very easy:

    Just login to your cPanel look for a "Security" row in that you will find a icon "Password Protect Directories" just click that and look for the folder you want to password protect...

    on Apache, if you have a different control panel, then you can add a .htaccess file to the folder with the details of log in etc
