which one do you prefer to write for your blog, do you follow your passion and interest or you are kind a profit oriented man?
as I wrote in my blog http://zendesign.co.id/2009/12/passion-vs-profit/
I'd prefer to post for my passion and learning :D

It's strange.. sometimes I feel in need of posting about stuff that will make me a lot of money. Which sometimes result in actually earning a lot with it, but sometimes fails too because the lack of interest. Then on other points I write about stuff that are my hobbies.. like webmaster stuff and programming (things I wanna learn etc.). Mostly it turns out to be awesome and it fails less than the big-earning blogs do, but in the end it turns out to be a website I sell because it hardly earns money (webmaster niche, proxy niche etc.).

    Just my $0,02 :D

It is defiantly easier to make valuable content when writing about something your interested in.

I post on my blog on topics that I want to become an expert in. The more I research, the more I write, the more I do, the better it is for my business.

If you would like to talk about your business and share ideas don't be shy to send me a message. I'd love to hear from you and share ideas.

I'd say the two have to come hand in hand.

I love Ed Dale's take on this.

Choose something you are at least curious about, then as you start to dig into it, you'll likely become very interested.

I have written articles for quite a few internet marketers, and sometimes the topics I think are going to be absolutely boring, turn into very interesting topics.

Once you dig in a little deeper, even office supplies can become interesting. Which may not make you passionate, but at least makes it easy to write, and therefore, you can write about things which make you money.

Monetization if important. Nobody would pay your bills but you. But that does not mean you should loose your passion focus on monetization only. Just take some care of the monetization part and that can go side by side with passion.

I suppose it's both for me. I have to be passionate about it, and it has to be profitable.

I've dumped programs that were profitable but were boring.

Passionate topics that are not profitable just stay a hobby.

I think 99% of the time it can be both. Any website with traffic can make money somehow. Therefore, if you're writing and working on a website related to your passion and others are following, you should be able to find a way to monetize it. For this reason, I always encourage people to build websites that they are interested in.
