Hey guys, today I was watching TV again and I noticed that PartyPoker and Everest Poker have some advertising campaigns running. They are explicitly stating that their sites are only for learning purposes and that you don't play with real money. Now the question is: How do they want to profit from this? Anybody having an idea? All I know is that bwin.com has some problems here in Germany (as far as I know Germany wants to shut down their gambling business/already did), but somebody said that the European law actually allows gambling.
They advertise the .NET version of their system. Players come and play for free and then decide they could be winning real money. They then venture to the .COM version, which is the real gambling site. By advertising the .NET version, they get around gambling advertising laws of the area they are advertising in.
tricky, here in sweden they advertise normal in fact even the goverment have a poker site svenskaspel.se
They advertise the .net version to collect the emails of potential customers. Then Party Poker referrs them to the .com version in an email blast, which is legal.
Is it legal to play poker online? As far as I know only transfer of money from credit cards is illigal not playing online for US players.
