Partitioning disk drive C of laptop acer AS5935G 2....

    Hi!

I recently bought an Acer Laptop AS5935 model, with 500G hard disc space. It comes with Vista.

I was really happy with my purchase until i realized that the C drive (hard disc) cannot be partitioned, which i find very rare:(. In other words, everything will be stored in C drive. Has this got anything to do with this particular model or is it because of Vista? I'm not sure.....

Can somebody out there advise me if there's a way to create partition, perhaps with another programme?

    Thanks in advance.:)

    Thanks Bohra!

So, does that mean my problem is with it being a Vista? or it's the laptop model limitation? Can i change from Vista to Windows XP? I'm not sure if i can do this with this acer AS5935G 2..model.

I understand that some pcs and laptops are not downgradable to Windows from Vista.

You will want to check if that manufacturer actually puts your Windows Restore on a separate partition on the disk. Many computer manufacturers, like HP for example, will format the drive in two partitions: you C drive for storage and another part of your drive (on the PC I'm using it's E) that will store your system recovery CD. This is to basically cut costs because they can use a part of your drive to store the Recovery CD instead of actually sending out a physical CD. You will be able to partition the drive into several different sections if you want, but make sure you don't erase the Recovery Partition. The best way to repartition a drive is always a complete reformat/reinstall of Windows.

And if you want to downgrade to XP make sure your manufacturer has XP drivers for your laptop before downgrading. http://support.acer.com/ , just type in your model and your off!

You can easily part your hard disks while you install your operating system.

    Hi There

Go to Disk Management and right click on your C: drive and select Shrink Volume. This can create another partition for you.

Or use a good partitioning tool, there are loads of FREE ones on my Computer Support Tools page

Although as has been said check where your recovery partition is and MAKE SURE you DONT delete it.

    Regards

there is only one drive because ur vendor made ur hard drive partition like this. You can use Partition Magic software. You can create more drives without reinstalling windows, losing any data. I have done this before with this software. It will work and its easy to operate.

Yes, It's true I've used powerquest partion magic and it's really cool. It also provides a dos based start up disk for emergency purpose and this works in GUI mode with mouse support. So even if you can't work in windows mode you can use it to recover your hard disk or do any partion work with out windows.
