Hi, About 2 years ago, I created a website on webs.com so I got a subdomain like example.webs.com Today I earn around $30/day and I want to earn way more. However, to do so I need a real domain/real hosting to establish a good promotion. I want a real domain name/ real hosting but I don't want to loose any traffic. Is it possible ? If I do a 301 redirection from my subdomain to my new domain, will it works ? or I should keep my subdomain to avoid loosing any traffic. Thank you
To keep from spooking your visitors, can you put up a message on your current page like "We have moved to example.com! Please wait while the site redirects you..." That way, people know they're going to end up where they want to end up and aren't being redirected to an affiliate landing page or something. If you have a mailing list of your site's current members or visitors, let them know about the changes and send them the new URL. Keep your current page and redirect set up for a few months to make sure you don't lose any visitors.
As above mate said, you have display a message for your visitors in 2 ways: Either you redirect through server side OR Give a hyper link to your new domain and ask your visitors to click on that to move to new domain.
You can just add a popup message using jquery after completely loading the page saying "We have moved from here. Just click here to go to our new site". This will help you not loose your original traffic and let your customers also migrated to the new site.
