Iv'e stumbled across a domain name that is available (long tailed) and that name gets 20,000 exact searches per month. Competition looks very tough for me at the moment so im considering on grabbing the domain anyway and parking it. Is 20,000 exact searches 'enough' or should i be looking higher even to recieve say $5 a day? What sort of money could i expect from parking this name at sedo or any other recommended parking site? As always +rep will be given! Thanks in advance.
When intending to park, the best domains are those that have the most type-in traffic, originated by direct input into the address bar. As you can't optimize by marketing, you have to depend on what people type. That makes it so that the best ones are single keywords, or domains that have been previously developed and still have residual traffic. By that logic, it is possible that a recent long-tailed (even if it presents a high search volume) generates little type-in traffic, making it not so good for parking... however, it may be quite good for development, so probably you should register it anyway for future use. And who knows, maybe I'm wrong and parking it while you don't develop it pays off.
