Parked domains - a view from an average web user

After some experience with web site building, domain registration etc. I see a LOT of domains registered and parked somewhere. OK, this is business. I just wonder how do these sites look to an average web user searching for some keywords and landing on this strange page with tasting popular keywords. Are such pages really interesting enough to him to make him click some ad? From my point of view you can easily see on such page that it has no valuable content. Or am I wrong?

I never click on any of them ads because i recognise the site as the crap it is.

i don't know about less web-savvy users though.

Although the year is 2008, You'd be surprised how many people are still there are out there, who know nothing about the internet and do manage to click on these ads. (Good for us) :)

Many parking companies have grown more professional over the years. Others...well...we won't talk about them.

I don't think it's not knowing about the internet. You search for 'california hotels' and type californiahotels.com and land on a page full of ads (didnt actually check the example, may be links, may not). suddenly a list of hotels in california shows up and you can get directly there. why go back and find another place to find a hotel? Search google? most are powered by google or yahoo and those feeds get indexed by what users click most and how well they pay. That means there is some efficiency to the whole method and users get what they needed. businesses get the business they need. many people can't tell the difference either, but as long as they find what they need that is what counts. And speaking from experience, domain name traffic converts, WELL. So they obviously are getting what they need (some studies suggest domain name traffic converts better than any other form) and not just clicking back or closing the window.
