    We're contemplating cutting paperwork.

One idea is to stop sending a paper invoice which is hassle really.

When buying/downloading software online you get nothing but a 'this is your receipt/invoice' page and that's fine with me. We already show such a confirmation page with all necessary details and it says 'please print or save for your records' type of message.

I just wanted your opinion on this.

For online retailing, buying tangible products online; Do you expect a paper copy of the incoice (VAT etc.) to your billing address?

Please comment with your ideas after voting.

E-mail invoices are usually fine, but for larger clients, if they want a paper invoice, that's what they get. :)

Of course, on request they will get a 'proper' one. I was thinking of sending them to obvious business addresses as standard.

I assume there's no laws that make you send a paper one is there (UK focussed)?

I would expect a packing slip or something for all goods. If it was an online purchase for a non-physical good like a software download I never expect an invoice.

You mean like a sort of re-confirmation of what's in the box?

I guess that's a good point. The invoice copy at the mo functions as this packing slip kind of list.

    Good food for thought, thanks.

    You got it ;)
I like to include it too, I print 2 packing slips out for each sale. One hard copy for us, on for the customer. It lets us know what is in the box and who it goes too, and the customer gets the confirmation, as well as when something goes wrong they got an order number for reference. That helps out your quality of customer service.

I guess we'll have to limit the idea to invoices sent from us for those products despatched from 3d party suppliers e.g. direct despatch/drop ship.
