India offers $5m aid to flood-hit in Pakistan

During Pakistan's massive earthquake in October 2005, India sent three consignments of relief material like blankets, medicines etc. For the first time ever, IAF planes landed in Islamabad to deliver relief material. But afterwards, officials reported that Pakistani authorities had ripped off ‘made in India' labels from relief material before distributing them, because it was easier to believe that India had not helped out during the earthquake. India had made a cash contribution to Pakistan's relief efforts, but Pakistan never used it, which led to a feeling of rejection in the Indian side.

Now, Pakistan on Friday seemed unsure about how to respond to a $5 million aid offer from India to help it meet its flood crisis.

The offer was made by Indian External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna in a telephonic conversation with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

Mr Krishna described the offer as a “gesture of solidarity with the people of Pakistan in their hour of need”, a statement issued by the Indian High Commission here said.

A statement by Foreign Office here on Mr Krishna’s call did not mention the Indian aid offer. However, sources in the foreign ministry indicated that it was being considered.

“We have not rejected the offer outright and a decision would be made soon,” a senior official told Dawn.

Its a good humanitarian gesture and all but why do we offer financial aid to a country that finances terrorist attacks on our soil. Only relief materials should be sent...let them rip off the made in India labels...we're doing it for a greater cause, doesn't matter if we don't get credit.

Many indian GODs including (Snakes, Cows, Monkeys, Buffalows, died in the pakistani flood also. at least you should have respect for them and sympathy. Or they don't deserve your sympathy because are pakistani.

That's interesting. Katrina caused approximately $81B (2005 dollars) in damage. The total GDP of Pakistan is only $168.5B (2009 dollars).

I just read this "Angry flood survivors in Pakistan blocked a highway to protest slow delivery of aid..." Does anyone not see the huge idiocy in blocking a road to protest aid delivery problems?
