brand new user here and pretty new to the whole website stuff. Figured kicking it off with a question might be a good start.

Any easy, painless, preferably free, and quality-rich back link strategies out there. Or is there even such a thing? Made mention in my profile, iv'e been dancing around back-linking for sometime. Gotta start sometime.

According to penguin 2.1 update many sites having exact match anchor text or signature links on forums had been penalized. So what we do and how it is the big question to SEOs.

Appreciate the response. And although I agree, back links are still of course very important. I guess using the word "strategy" sounds a little devious, I meant along the lines of white hat strategies.

Best and safest way to achieve quality backlinks is through an SEO service company who is offering 1st page rankings or whitehat SEO

quicksprout has an advanced guide to link building and it is almost too much information about creating links manually.

    Free Methods:
    1. Guest Posting - Find and contact websites in your niche and offer them quality guest posts. Hard work and patience is required.
    2. Web 2.0 - Only create web 2.0s that are popular and treat them as real websites. But this method alone cannot rank your site on medium to high competition. I use web 2.0s to diversify my anchor texts.
    Paid Methods:
    1. Find a service that lets you post on their high pr blogs but keep this to a minimum and only buy from those trusted sellers. I use this to have similar keywords as anchor texts and this actually gives boost for rankings. Disadvantages are: it is offered to the public which means higher risk and post won't stay long in the homepage but luckily sometimes goes to a category page with high pr.
    The Real Deal:
Finding expiring domains with high PR that has legit backlinks. Be careful as there are fake PRs or having crappy links. So better check thoroughly the domain's backlink profiles before bidding/buying. With this, you can make them related to your niche and it gives you 'Relevant High PR Backlinks' and place your Main Keywords as anchor texts. It is safe, been using this for nearly 2 years now and only 1 domain got deindexed. 5-10 domains would be a good start and host them on different cheap shared hostings. Very effective and my sites are still ranking high after penguin 2.1.

    On Page:
This would also help by having 'supporting/child pages' linking to the 'Landing Page/Parent page'. The landing page points to its child/supporting pages and supporting pages points back to the landing page. Landing page is the page you want to rank on google.
For affiliate sites which most of us are doing, DO NOT place affiliate links on every page of the site. Also create pages wiithout affiliate links and also link to relative authority sites on similar niche. I've done this and so far it keeps me safe since I already learned my lessons when Penguin first launched and wiped out all my sites.
FORGET ABOUT: blog comments, profile links, article directories, blasting spun articles

Since you mentioned that you are a newbe, start with the basics,
    - social bookmarking
    - guest blogging
    - article submissions
    - directory submissions

there are two ways to build links in general. one where you have money and you outsource your link building in various way, the other is hard work - where you do all that yourself.

for example - guest blogging is something that can be achieved by hard work, if you do not have money.

Manual link building is definitely hard work. I think this stellar tutorial by Matthew Woodward will start you off on the right foot:

    http://www.matthewwoodward.co.uk/tutorials/backlink-competitor-analysis/

It might seem like a lot to take in at first, but he gives you the option of downloading his tutorial in PDF format to keep as a reference. Anyone new to SEO and link building should follow and practice this same method. It's a great way of not only finding good quality backlinks relevant to your site, but out-ranking your competitors sites at the same time! Hope this helps ; )
